jigz: Glad to see you weren't put off by the the closing of the last thread (it just a technique for stopping the natives getting too reckless). I think I prefer this to the yellow one as it has a better structure some thoughts:

1. The background is possibly too distracting as you want people to focus on your content.

2. I've seen this idea done before (and better) and I'm not overly enamoured of the technique of restricting your content window by plonking a couple of iframes into a pretty picture.

3. The image is too long for 800x600.

4. Your controls aren't to obvious and don't seem to follow an obvious path - the eye wants them to run in a curve parrallel to that curve and they don't (they start off away from the curve get closer and then move away) - it 'jars' and gives the impression something is wrong (obviously in some art this is the desired effect but to break the rules well you've got to know them and break them well!!).

5. You'll want to center that image and have some kind of background to eliminate the white (personally I like that dark blue from the current version).

6. Having the link text against 3 different blues is unwise.

You want 90% - of what? There isn't a wrong or right so we don't hand out marks!!

Overall I like the look better than the previous one - I'm not convicened of the concept and the content areas are too low.

#The Russian judge gives that performance a 3.2#

One thought on the old design - use overflow: auto on those iframes to get rid of unneccesary scrollers.

Well I'm also glad that your last thread didn't draw you away from here. Just a few comments and I will try not to reiterate what Emps said.

A few of things to think about.

1. What are people going to come to your site for? I guarentee that it will all come down to "content". Whether it be graphics or what not, it is all content. Don't let your graphic capability get in the way of a website design. Too often than not, I have seen good website that could be great if they just tone it down a few notches.

2. These being said, what is the first thing that should draw a viewer to your site? Right now it is that huge picture of a girl. It is not a bad picture but it shouldn't be the main focus of the site which it is right now.

3. I am suspecting that the layout you are going to use is going to have iFrames, correct? A little caution, this will only work in IE unless you have a script that will load the content into a <div> tag. Like the good Doc says "Specification is for insects"

4. About the graphics, if that is the main focus of your site, let the "Art Works" section take care of that for the most part. That is what thumbnails and pop-ups are good for. So people can see your art and not be distracted by the main body of the page.

At the company that I work for, the girl in production is FAMOUS for letting her art get to carried away. With her though, it is a fine line between "creativity" and "gaudiness". Not to say your art is bad, it's not, you just seem to be relying on it like a crutch sort of.

Keep working on it. Hopefully it will kind of click together and you can find that nice joining of "graphic art" and "web design".

Hope that doesn't piss you off, you have some good graphics skills, you just need to woodshed it a little on the web design side.

wow! just a few minutes and...hey thanks! No im not pissed off. Its really nice to know that you guys are really willing to help out. Unlike those previous forums that's i've encountered, all they say is "yeah go make some custom scrollbars".

i see now, thanks emps and cprompt. Im starting to realize things now.

emps: true i'll stick with two colors and use the third one for the link. Is that right?! Or should i just stick with two colors?

*lists down some things*

cprompt: know what, you are right let the "art works" category do the thing for showing off graphics. Maybe i'll make some graphics but i need to make sure that its not distracting. And oh yeah can you give me the link of that girl? Latly, thanks for reminding me about the code! I wasn't able to do that in my previous layout.

Thanks, it's starting to click now. Im off for my next project. I've decided not to use that layout. And i think the girl in the background is not that good to show off!

One last thing, do you think the logo is cool? Can you guys suggest any cool style for the logo "sulliedmind"?

*wonders a bit*

No comment with the "news" category in a different frame?

jigz;

good that you are an understanding person. About the link to my co-worker. She doesn't have a site. She is a graphic artist that does advertisment for our publication. If you really want to, have a nose around at our site: http://triad.careerweb.com

When you see an ad that is not all text, more than likely she did it. I just get to post the ones that are text based (I'm just an advertising consultant, not a graphic artist here)

About the frame for the news, you may want to try Doc's znippets (http://www.znippets.com) I have not used it but some of the others here have. I think it may be a more logical approach for this kind of layout.

Logo for sulliedmind? Hmm. . . maybe it's just me being tired but I don't know what that means. What is "sullied"? There are some sites that you can check out that I use sometimes for "inspiration" Here are the links:

* http://linkdup.com

Have a look around at those. There are some really cool sites.

Take care and if I may offer one more bit of advice. Sit down away from the computer and just "think" about what you would like the site to look like. Draw it out on a big piece of paper and when you get something that you really like, go to Photoshop (or whatever program you use)

I have found that to be the best method for me and it may help you out as well.

Just wanted to add this: http://www.digital-web.com/features/

Digital Web is an online magazine that is maintained by a few of the Asylumites. Check it out on a regular basis, it can really help out.

one question. When you tile the image right,Is it better to make a code that will load all the images first or just let it load one by one?
