Looks really good I think. You should use <meta http-equiv="imagetoolbar" content="no" /> in the head of your documetn to get rid of the img save/mail/... box in IE6.

Nice background Just not real sure about the random text (x and y values, and numbers) scattered around...
Maybe could get the whole page to fit to one screen to get rid of the scrollbars. The vertical one isn't usually a pain, but the only things that you scroll down to are the same two links you have nearer to the top. (Unless you are planning on adding a good deal more in the space at the bottom)
The horizontal scrollbar is a major annoyance though IMHO. I always hate it when there are only 10-15 pixels that don't fit.

Then there's the "thing" on the right hand side... Disclaimer or something? If so, would probably be best at the bottom. But right now it's so small that people (well, I) can't read it. If you don't want something to be read, easiest way is to just leave it off, rather than making people strain to see it, leadng to nasty thoughts toward the person who designed it

About the meta-tag mentioned above... (And I agree with him)...
In IE6, when you hold the cursor over an image, it brings up a small toolbar with (copy, save, print) buttons for easy "borrowing" of peoples graphics.

Disclaimer: I don't actually know what the buttons are. But it's something to that effect. I only use IE6 up at school and have seen that toolbar show up once or twice.

I like the layout/colors etc. But the little "+" signs and other seemingly ramdom text "things" (sorry vocab is out for the night) are confusing me. What am I missing? Are they not supposed to be there, or are they in the wrong place or am I a complete moron? (Hmm prolly shouldn't have opened myself up for that question but you do strange things at 330am.)

Lookie here, another Aussie, and an RMIT student to boot... Say, is John Maeda still teaching design down there?

Very nice colours. I like the '+' signs, you've created some really strong point elements with them. Problem is, their making the composition hard to read. Less contrast on these would go a long way.

Speaking of the composition, the frame space you've choosen doesn't really suit a web page. Your an RMIT student so I shouldn't have to tell you this - Design for the medium!... tisk tisk.

The only other thing I'm not too happy with is the style... A little too trend whore~ish for me, but that's just me.

Appart from that I think it's great. Did I mention I love the colours? Yah, OK. good.

Its pretty good.
Im far from being able to do something like that myself just yet.
I dunno though if you had help pulling such a big site off.
I worked alone on mine though, allthough it was a webportal it was hard work.

But IF and when im able to do it, i would change at least 2 things.

First what you called design, i think is crap.
I mean ok its pretty purdy, but NOT that purdy so it has to take up a whole page for itself with only 2 small links on it.

And if i follow the links its a better design behind it.
So just put in the forum link on the next page instead (sorry, i would do that i mean)

Also there is a tutorial.
Eager to learn as i am i clicked it at once.
I eat tutorials.
Well, i started to read it, when i read the first line it hits me, what app is this tutorial about anyway.
So i went back but nothing there more then it says tutorial random lights.
Back to the tut, nothing in there either (at least not that i found).
So thats another thin I would change.
Make it clear what app the tut is about.

Btw i at least saw the pics and figured by the commands its Photoshop so i saved it anyway and will try it ou later

But dont take my words here so hard couse i my self suck at webdesign and would be glad if i could come up with something like that

Spellbinder.

Who's the other RMIT student?

As for the tut i'm shit at writting and not very good with tuts...hehhe

Oh about why its so big..yeah sorry my screen is 1600*1200.. That splash was orginally a wallpaper so i strunk it down from 1600*1200 to the size it is that why u can read the writhing that on the right hand side...

Ah, well that would explain the size. However, when you make a site (or splash page or whatever) usually wise to take things like that into account

On a personal note, I happen to dislike splash pages in general though. I always hated having to go through pages without anything on them except a link or two. There are cases where they can be appropriate, although I can't think of any off the top of my head...

IMHO at least
