Ok then, this isn't your average web page (what is an average web page?)...

It's basically just about screwing around with javascript, sound, quicktime audio, midi and some photographs. I've tested it on IE6 and Mozilla/NS7. I know for a fact that it won't work for IE5.x Mac, NS6 or Opera and well, I don't care. It should however work for NS7/Mozilla on the Mac but I haven't tested that yet. Oh yah, NS7/Mozilla also require QuickTime 6 as that's the only version that supports Mozilla's plugin-scripting API. I also found out that a re-release of the Flash MX plugin can be scripted to in Mozilla not too. Yay!

Anyways, it be here: http://www.whatever.net.au/~cameron/QUT/KMB626/

I'm still playing with bits and pieces here and there. I'm trying to get something to stream (an audio file played in the background to be exact) without using any kind of server to stream it, is that possible with quicktime?

I also realise that a lot of this would be easier if I could use flash/shockwave but the assignment brief said I couldn't. It should be relatively fast, fast enough for dial-up users execpt for the "emptyness" section. If you do have broadband, can you tell me weather or not "emptyness" works?.. ie, are there two seperate background songs playing?

It took a while to load on dialup, a couple of minutes per section, but once I was inside, I was much impressed. Im not really sure what to say about it actually. The only negative thing that really struck me was the text at the bottom, it simply didn't fit. personally, I would much rather see a clickable copyright logo somewhere taking me to the about page, and maybe a mute icon for the midi. Obviously some might say the tables are an issue as well, but you do have to sacrifice for your art...

Yes, the tables suck. Usually I avoid using tables for layout like the plague but I was running short on time and opted to just output my slices from Photoshop and run with that. I'd say I'll fix it later but now that it's online and working I seriously doubt that'll happen. I have to start on my next assignment on monday if I want to get it done on time!

You don't like the text links?... Hmm.. Ok then. I'll have a play with some icons but I kinda like the red line those links made. Maybe some little black and red icons. =)

Edit:

I just got off Q with Jason who was having some issues with the site. If your using IE you need to enable active X controls for quicktime if you heen't done so in the past as this feature is disabled by default. It should pop open a dialoge asking you to do so when you enter the site for the first time. If you don't the javascript won't be able to talk to quicktime and you'll get Javascript errors. I'll update the front page with a warning message about this soonish.

Ok, I guess many of you are getting scared off by the weird plugin and warning messages that pop up. For some I guess it's also generating JS errors (Windows IE has a sticky problem with sharing it's mimetypes). Anyways, I realise the site isn't all that viewable to that many people but I had to use a lot of audio and I couldn't use flash or shockwave so eh, my options were severly limited. In the end I was kinda forced to make an extreamly un-accessable website and now it all just feels like it was for nothing.

Since the assignment is over and I don't want this site to be as much as a wast of time as it really was, (although I did learn a bunch about acoustic theory) I'm thinking about converting all of the audio and possibly the imager into flash. Yay or don't bother?
