Any comments on my new portfolio page? It is tableless and fully liquid. Well, I did a new one because the old one was just crap (for example, I couldn't add an image without opening the html document). Read the news of thespacebetweenus.com for more infos, they are also shown over there.

Btw, does anyone know why Internet Explorer produces a small space one the left of the div where it says "welcome" ?
Help would be very appreciated. Thank you.

My simple answer, IE sucks. I seem to have solved your problem by removing the width:100%; from the .subheaddiv. I used a similar technique for my headers here, only I just defined the style with the h1 tag.

Looks fine without it in IE51, 55 & 6, Firebird, Moz1, NS7 + Opera5. Why it fixes the problem, beats the hell outta me.

I like the site. Those icy blue gradients and the warmth of the main image mix well. One thing I noticed, the white hover color of your links are kinda hard to see. Other than that, it's a great design.

Goota be quick, in a bit of a rush this morning...

I think the *liquid* aspect is dominating your design too much here.

For starters, the "Latest Image" takes forever to load. Liquid it may be but if I don't actually resize the browser window I'd just assume your site was super slow.

Secondly, white space. There just isn't any. This is where most liquid web page layouts fail dismally IMHO. You don't *have* to use every bit of screen space, in fact, I'd say it's bad to do so. It's good to have places where the eye can rest and I can't do that with your page. I'm instantly hit with pillar to post text and images -- my imediate reaction it so increase the browser size to get some space in there but no, the damn text follows me -- trapped. But then again, maybe that's just me.

You can probably fix this using nice fat margins, but that might really hurt the minimum screen size of your design.

Lastly, I'm not too fussed about the heading. Is that meant to be a reflection? If so then it isn't really working for me, a reflection would imply perspective and a flat plane which I'm not getting fomr the checked backgorund. In any event, both the heading background and the foreground don't seem to fit in with the site too well. If I remember your other sites correctly, I know you can do a lot better here.

Sorry if that sounded harsh. I'm rushed and well, I just know you can do a better job in certain areas.

I am getting a little tired to see all this XP silver header bgs everyone does, it never was that cool. same goes for the checker board bg's i think the doc started when imitating PS' non image area. Thats probably just me, so dont take me too serious on that.

NOTE: I am not implying the scheme is bad, just wrongly used, IMO. That same colour scheme can be used a bit better for my tastes.

Interesting thing on resizing the latest image.

And what drac said (except that the Latest image does load fast for me).

Not too much to add, I suppose. I pretty much agree with what's been said so far (especially concerning breathing room--the "white space" issue that Cam-- er, Drac mentioned).

There is one thing I am wondering about, and that is what relationship your portfolio has to the rest of your site. On the front page you refer to it both as a "Portfolio page" and a "Portfolio site"--and then on the portfolio page itself you call it a "page" that is part of your "domain" (not site). The way I see it, the portfolio is another page in the site, and if that is the case, you need some site-wide navigation. Currently the only thing leading back to the main page is a link within the text.

Here's another thing I noticed while playing around--the image links open new browser windows. I suppose this isn't that bad, except that when I click on your header at the top I am taken back to the main (portfolio) page. Now I click on another image, and another, and before I know it I have a half dozen browser windows open. Personally, I did away with opening links in new windows a long time ago, but that's just a personal choice. I have no qualms with people who want to open external links in new windows. I do not understand, however, why you open internal links in a new window. Seems to me it just makes things more complicated then necessary.

Here's an idea: if you really want to open the pictures in new windows, leave the header out of it and just put a "close" button at the top. I think that would be best for usability (if you're going to go the new-window route, of course).

By the way, that's some nice work you got in that portfolio. I especially like some of the photographs you have there.

*Stabs Drac again*

Stupid IE remembering my usernames & passwords... He'll die one day. Maybe I should change Drac's password to some nonsence string that I'll never remember.

didn't know that there is such a big difference in the web
so, portfolio is a part of thespacebetweenus.com - is it a site then or a page?

It's best to use these things in a sentance.

The term web site typically refers to every web page under that domain or in the case of web servers that host for multiple users then these sites are can be referred to as all pages under the one sub domain or sub directory.
