Topic: Streaming an MP3 (Page 1 of 1)

What is the best way to do this? I've never tried before but I am creating a page of pictures for my sister's wedding and I want to put "their song" in the background. Its 5 MB though so I'd like it to stream.

HELP!

Also, how do you make sure that a person has Flash 5 before they can load the file and if they don't it prompts them to DL it.

Anyways, I don't know about MP3, you might want to ask FIG...they have music background on their website.

Sound's really not my strong suit unfortunately, but there's some GREAT tutes about sound on GN by J-man that may help.

As far as detection there's tons of ways to do it, simplest is prob just to have a page that has a little animation and asks if they can see, if so then continue in. moock.org has some detection ideas as does macromedia's site. I've yet to find one that i really feel works consistenly well.

Holly cow guys! This all I do.......

• And a new layer
• Name the layer sound
• And a key frame and the end of the scene.
• I play the scene and make sure the song doesn't need a loop.

If you aren't sure how to add a song.......

• Go to import
• Browse and find your song
• Import the song.
• Select the frame you are going to add sound to.
• Go to modify at the top of the page.
• Then modify frame
• select the sound tab
• use the drop down to find your sound
• and a loop if the song is to short.

Foundation ActionScript has a good section on the sound, making volue controls, etc. UltraShock has some kicking tutorials too. Sliding volume controls are sweet - they really make you look impressive!

If the page is primarily HTML and you just want Flash to play the sound, it's pretty much just embedding a Flash movie with nothing but the sound.

If the page is primarily Flash and you don't want to bloat the file with the soundtrack, the soundtrack can be a separate swf loaded into the main movie with actionscript.

The little "do you see the animation?" thingie is probably the only "foolproof" detection scheme. There are javascript ones that are complex. One I used has an entry page with the "get plugin" notice, but it also embeds a tiny, fast loading Flash movie with some code that only Flash5 can interpret. If they don't have Flash 5, the movie hits a stop(); action and the page just sits there. If they do have Flash 5, the movie pops ahead to a frame that calls a JavaScript instruction to open a new window with the real movie in it. This seemed to work well for me.
