'a tutorial for making a dragon' ??????

1) if you're asking for a tutorial for making a dragon, I can only assume you don't know enough about using the software to follow such a thing (assuming such a thing existed).

2) if you want to make a dragon, go try it. get stuck, ask for some specific help. That's kind of like asking 'How do I paint a picture?'

I remember reading an abstract about how this guy made a dragon in POV-Ray. Don't think that will help you much, besides, I can't find where I read it.

Okay, so I did so some other poking around. No tuts on making dragons. So how about some general advice?

Go to 3D Cafe and grab some dragon models. Load them and look at them. That might help you with a general plan of attack.

A great thing to do is to have reference right in your 3D app. Draw your own front/side/top views (doesn't have to be too fancy), scan them in, and then use them on a plane or in the background. Could draw something in PS instead of scanning. Fairly easy to box model or do some spline work from reference. Hell, you could drop some splines from the scans, ace the scans, then box model from the splines. Or just continue modeling with the splines.

Maybe you could find some pictures to drop in your 3D prog so you don't have to draw and scan.

I would scan some pictures in, use that for some dummy objects to rough it out, ace the reference, then box model from the dummies. Well, I would also use transfromed primitives and do some boolean work as well. Basically play it by ear depending.
