I decided to have some more fun with marbles in pov and to try to learn a bit about the scripting POV can do. What do you think? Oh is there anyway to get some kinda collision detection in here so that the randsom script doesn't generate two marbles that intersect? Any other critiques would be cool too.

foggy. a bit too foggy for me.
because the light sky doesnt fit to the ground fog.

besides that, i like it!
you could add some nice mountains in the distant back using some height fields . hehehe.

Ew, I don't like the color of the ground. And the jpeg compression doesn't help =)

As for collision detection, that can be sort of hard. The easiest way I can think of is to keep an array of the sphere's positions, and every time you place a sphere, compare it to every sphere you've already placed, and make sure its distance from that sphere is more than the sum of the spheres' radii. If it isn't, keep randomly placing it until it is.

I wonder why the photons aren't showing up...

The ground was supposed to be dirt and the ground flog dirt that got kicked up. It looks right but it doesn't look good I'll change it and play some more. The photons do show up, especially in the glass ones in the distance. The fog kinda hides 'em a little though. I think I'll get rid of that too.
