I, for one, am impressed. Kudos.

How are you liking Wings?

Thanks

Oh I'm lovin' it. I've barely ever touched another 3D app besides pov and after learning the basics I was able to get right in and start modelling some pretty complex stuff (complex as in I never imagines I would make a dog in Pov ) Its real easy to use, compatible with pov my other favorite 3D proggy and pretty powerful too as far as I can tell.

I'm definetly hooked

Compliments of Schitzoboy in the thread about Nendo. Wings 3D is free, and very good for modeling. I didn't know it was friendly with POV-Ray (or visa-versa). More kudos to Schitzoboy for figuring that out.

Cool, I'm going to check this out. I've needed a modeller for a while now.

Most modellers don't work directly with POV-Ray, but there are lots of conversion programs.

Thanks for all the comments everyone! I can't wait to see what some of you guys come up with wings though! Yeah he need eyeballs. I think I'll just use 2 spheres in povray instead of adding to the mesh. That way I can move 'em around easier since wings doestn' have any bone system yet. I should also point out that wings isn't completely compatible with povray yet, but you can use this plug-in http://www.midcoast.com.au/~rgcoy/hobbies/wings.html to get it to export into pov3.5's mesh format. The plug-in also supports megapov .7 You still have to do a little tweaking on the material names though. Bjorng the creator of wings says that povray support will be fully intergrated within a couple of versions though.

I should ALSO point out just for the sake of completeness that wings can also export to many other filetypes as well including .rib. You can even render directly from wings if you have BMRT. So if you're into that ... I think pov is a lot more user friendly than BMRT even if you only model in wings and set up your scenese with it. I think soon you'll be able to render your scene directly from wings using Povray as well but can't quite yet.

I downloaded and installed it, and when I run it, it brings up an empty window frame, after which everything freezes... ctrl+alt+del once does nothing, twice brings up a blue screen, i hit enter, it gives me the end task dialogue, i kill the process, everything returns to normal. It consistently works that way.

I'll try again once I've upgraded to XP... in a week or so ideally.

Damn, Schitzoboy. Get funky with your bad self! You've managed a fine model in such a short time -- I can't wait too more down the road. I'm almost jealous.

Slime, once you get things straightened out, I expect a full report from you. Some models would be nice, but at the very least I expect your thoughts on Wings 3D.

Patience =) I'm out of disk space, I gotta make backups, delete some things, and then I'll try it again, and if it doesn't work, I'll wait until my XP upgrade (which is waiting until after all my projects are due).

Lots of stuff due wednesday, however, so I won't be using it much until then, maybe later.
