ok i have some really damn cool plants grasses etc that i want to tile to create a surface for a scene, the only problem the grass especially is a huge file whats the best way to texture this, not high res but fairly good as some of it will be foreground.

Well.... If your using 3DStudio you can bring the dxf files directly into it and then apply a 2 sided grass material to the grass. Or you can import the dxf into autocad and save it as a Max file and import that and apply the material.

I guess where I'm lost is that if the dxf file is big than your 3Dstudio file will also be big. As for the image, I would only put grass where it will help the image (forground, cracks in concrete) and only apply a grass texture to the mid and background.

yep good points there reitveld.
If you can, you might want to try and ungroup the dxf and
then just select the parts you want and regroup.
Place the parts wherever.
