Start with a Teapot primitive.
Give it Noise and get crazy until it "shapes up".
Materialize it, and Render.

im not sure if the background at your link was made using a 3d tool!
could also be photoshop only.

Are you just looking for a jpg background image? or an actual 3D model for the background. A jpg is a good fake for backgrounds and is WAY EASY to render compared to a large model far in the background.

There is no 3d per sey in there. At least nothing in a 3D modelling program. That appears to be a big chunk of photoshop work.

the effect on the splash page HAS 3dsmax elements to it. the crystalized forms were created in 3d studio max using simple shapes and then i have applied a transparancy to the forms to give it a see through effect. it also uses a huge chunk of photoshopping and photography.

well i would like it to be created in 3D Studio Max but eventually i will end up bringing it into photoshop to do the final touches on it like higlights etc...

and one of yall were asking me whether i want it in *.jpg or not. the answer to that is ''yes'' b/c i would need the file to be in *.jpg just so the background would show up crisp.

it really isn't that complicating as warjournal said. all i did was design bunch of triangles with opacity of about 60 or so, do some 3d modeling abstraction with it, render it, save, rotate and render, save, again and again

put it together in photoshop using layer blending modes, include some photography, type and some cool effects and that's what u should get. im not much of a modeler (im a graphic designer, not a 3d modeler) so i don't do much of these complicated stuff. i spent alot of time on motion graphics than 3d applications.

sincerely,
syn
