I'm up for a match, but I may be slow to respond; classes start today for me. But I still think I'll have enough free time. So go ahead and serve, I'll wait. =)

No, I don't think I'll bother with a new thread, since this one is already made for this match anyway. Thumbnails... could be made bigger but they're already 1/4 the size of the actual image, so it would sort of defeat the purpose, I think =)

At this point, the changes are so subtle that you probably won't notice them. We're just refining details.

amazing!
how long did the last render take?
if its short enough, maybe we can see a short camera fly through the cell...

2h 42m 58s, but I think for the last third or so I may have accidently set the render priority to low and the GUI priority to high by mistake The AA settings were pretty high too. A think a fly through could be possible with lower aa and a lower rez, but it would still take quite a bit of time....

hmmm... this would be really cool and creepy if the camera slowly crept up to the man as the lamp sways gently. When I get some more free time I might play with it. Of course you can download the source code and give it a try too.

By removing the inner surface of the light bulb and reducing the max trace level by a lot, and then somehow simplifying the hair of the guy (maybe making fewer steps in the sphere sweeps, reducing the number of hairs, etc), the render time may decrease enough to make a short low res animation possible.

Well, we got 23rd place out of 138. That's not bad! I was hoping for better (of course), but we got into the 17th percentile. That's better than 4/5 of the entries.

Our score was:
11.828 Artistic merit
11.438 Technical merit
11.812 Concept, Originality, and Interpretation of Theme
11.6927 Overall

A pretty well-rounded score. I don't know what the maximum possible is, however.

I think the winning image won because of its surrealistic quality and it's excellent use of radiosity. It wouldn't have been my first choice, but I can see it's appeal.
