I am building a lighthouse in Maya and would appreciate any comments you may have.
This is still a work in progress, but I will be aiming for the photorealistic look eventually... But so far most of the textures aren't done yet.

Would appreciate any insight you might have for me... The good the bad and the butt-ugly.

Chrome or Gold railings would have a great look, especially if you reflected them off the windows. You seem far along and should let your art continue to flow.

I agree with your idea about the color of the rails... But I accidently found a better way to do it... When I added a golden yellow light in the lantern room to test out how the lighting will go, it illuminated the rails in a beautiful way in yellow and gold.
When I'ill add the final lights to the final composition, the rails will be dark dark blue metal in color, but their specular color will be golden.

Added more geometry to my model. Check out the pic attached to the first post.

I added the tower itself and the tower windows. I still need to add the lantern room details, and many many textures... I am looking for ideas on how to improve it.

What do you think of the lower window frames? In the reference photos I have they are like that too... "windowless windows". Do you think they looks good? Should I add real windows in there?

I think the tower itself looks a bit too CG... Any ideas on how to improve it?

Updated the first message with the latest images from the WIP, with an actual texture on the tower itself, a bigger lantern room and many other small tweaks.

I know this goes a bit over board and many people said I may want to try a smoother texture on the tower because most towers are smoother and colored differently... But I like this look and I think it will fit in better with my final composition.

What do you think? Any ideas, suggestions, comments?

I know, still haven't added the details inside the lantern room... Including the light itself and the fresnel lens.

But there's also a light from the tower itself where the light keeper lives.

OK, I gave up on this one for now... Too busy with other "real work" projects, and have too many ideas for other 3d projects which are crying out for my attention.

So here is what I did so far, and how it will probably remain...
It's missing the insides of the lantern room, the door to enter the lighthouse, and a more detailed island... But WYSIWYG.

Goodbye lighthouse
