Been working on re-modeling my old Eustace Banks. Modeling low-poly then rendering with MeshSmooth. Also using some segmented geometry, like his head/neck, shoes, and hands.

And playing with some toon shading. Also pulling a shader trick for his lenses, and I can't wait to see it in action.

The deformation tests I've done so far have been very promising. Actually, a lot better than I expected.

If my server doesn't crap out, this is what I have so far:

The big thing on my mind is what to do with him once he's all rigged up. I've got some ideas for some martial arts stuff. Like practicing with a wooden dummy, meditating under a waterfall, or maybe even some Dragonball Z special effects type stuff. However, no real ideas for a storyline.

Most of the rigging is done. Still have a few rough spots, though. Still have eyebrows to add. Not sure when I'll get to adding texture morphs for his mouth because I'm so sick of uvw mapping him already.

What are you using to model and render? From MeshSmooth, I'm thinking Lightwave, though I could easily be wrong.

In any case, it's looking shmick. (Which is Australian for "Good!")

I'm liking the pose in the 2nd render, it looks so... hiphop... maybe he could be the first gardener gangsta.

i'm betting its max if i remember my terms correctly, lightwave is either metanurbs or (now" subpatches).

i like the character, the cel shading gives him kinda an interesting look. anything animated with him yet?

If you let me wander out of the basement... it might be awhile before I wander back.

I'm still tweaking the geometry in a few places. Still have a few polys to blast and I'm going to raise the front of his overalls. Did the testing for morphing his eyebrows and it's all good. Did you know that Morpher works with anchor points on a spline? You never know until you try. Still have to attach them to his head, though.

Yes, 3DS Max. And the second pose is supposed to relay a readiness for action. Hip hop? Blah!

As for animating, I am planning on it. The problem is that I've never done any character animations before and the learning curve is *very* steep. I'm thinking about pulling out some old Jackie Chan movies and having Eustace do some angry style kung fu. Although, "The Five Venoms" was on the other day and I think toad style will fit as well - it also looks easier to animate. I mean, the hip movement and swaying alone in drunken boxing is insane to animate.

I posted a reply yesterday, but it looks like a gremlin got it.

I am planning on animating, but character animation has a very steep learning curve. When I get to it, I'm thinking Jackie Chan's angry kung fu or toad style from "The 5 Deadly Venoms". I would like to do drunken boxing, but the hip motion and swaying will be too much for me.

I hate character animation. Did some of that for a university assignment once, took all day just to do a simple walk cycle properly. Sweet looking character though, good luck with the animation. =)

For the past two years or so, I have done quite a bit of reading about character animation. Even though I have never actually done any, all that reading is seriously paying off. It's not really as hard as I thought it would be.

With all of the kung fu movies I have, I might have to install my tv tuner card and do some serious scrubbing for motion study. Earlier today I was messing around with Drunken Master (the first one) looking for parts. Also, there are a few snippets in Legend of the Drunken Master that I wouldn't mind taking a whack at. Oh, the joys of research.

'Nax, I'm not sure what you mean by sick wrestling moves. Please don't be talking about big time wrestling. Just plain wrong, man.

BTW, I *finally* saw Shaolin Soccer.
There is a part in there that I'm thinking about borrowing.

After Steel Leg gets the hang of handling an egg, he is practicing against that wall.
The part with the wall is what I'm thinking about.
Looks simple enough to animate.

Too pooped to talk about the changes. So, just a quick visual update with sucky angle and lighting.
