Topic awaiting preservation: Learning PHP, need suggestions

Hey y'all....

Would some of you be willing to give me an idea of how you learned PHP? I need to learn it and how to do all the data base integration with MySQL.

I am "codingly challenged," really struggling to make sense of JavaScript and the like, so I need something that the more designer types can understand.

I know there are some good resources on the web, but am plenty willing to buy a book or 2 if I need to.

Any suggestions will help. THX!

A thought PHP Fast & Easy Web Development was a great beginners book.

As for web resources check out this thread. It lists lots of websites for PHP.

I own 2 PHP books:

Core PHP Programming

PHP & MySQL Web Development


First I did some of the on line tutes and learn't this and that from the PHP manual but I found my progress somewhat slow. The books have been helping speed up my learning to no end.

I started with Core PHP Programming which was good, now I rely almost completly on the php.net documentation.

Hello everyone, I'm new 'round here but have looked around the forum for a while, finding it very useful.

I also used php fast and easy web development, and then Php and mysql web development by Sams. I reccomend them both.

I also heartily recommend PHP and MySQL Web Development but definitely not as a beginners book. When you feel you have your feet wet, and your ready to take the next step, then get this book.
