Hi... I've been reading a lot of the topics here at the Asylum for quite a while, but have only posted a couple of times. I really admire a lot of the stuff you guys do with design and coding

Anyways, In the last few months I've been learning PHP and have done Mini Portal and a few other little things. Now, in College, I'm doing a course that is basically a PHP project. We spend the semester in that class building a PHP application. Since I already know PHP (enough to know what I'm doing), I'm working without a partner or group on this project.

My application is a world locator map, which I got the basis for the idea here, and from GuestMap. I saw the world locator thing here, but as far as I knew, there was no front end for entering someone on the map(I could be wrong). GuestMap has the front end sort of guestbook feel, but its got a small map and crappy ads all over.

The project is composed of 3 phases, each of which we are to implement new features. I am almost done the second phase. There are a bunch of other features I'll be implementing still, but I've got it going pretty good so far I think. Its pretty basic so far, but at least it works. Right now emphasis isn't really on design or looks (but I can't have it looking too ugly now can I? ).

When you add yourself, a dot is added to the map in that location. I had it grouping dots when the map is drawn, but that feature is temporarily taken out.

Anyways, let me know what you think about it eh

here it is... No Brakes Mini

Thanks C:\ I was looking for the Mr Max's as I saw it a while back. Its very precise, dots based on peoples' actual latitude and longitude, whereas mine is just where the visitor clicks.. good enough for my purposes

Doc, thanks for checking out the map... I'd change to GIF, in fact thats what I wanted to use originally, but the gd for php no longer supports GIF because of copyright issues or something Maybe I can get an old gd??

thanks for the replies

so there's 1900+ registered users and only 2 around??

i now added the ability for a vistor to enter a description of their Mini(s) when adding themselves to the map. If the user says he has (Xamountof) cars, that many description boxes will show up on the ext screen, allowing them to enter data about their car(s).

As far as I'm aware (and someone will jump in if I'm wrong) but you will only loose the transparency in browsers which don't support it. It just may not be what you are looking for but have a play.

Nice work.

sure will give it a try... thanks Emps

I actually had it drawing pins on the map earlier... taking a png of a Pin and putting it on the map instead of a dot. i may still go back to that, or maybe have it as an option... I'll set it up so you can see.... its a quickly-put-together pin image and whatnot so it looks crappy but gives an idea of what i *could* do

there... its up with pins! looks pretty cool if u ask me
here it is

edit--- I'd have to change the coords that you can click to get data from the pin though... now you have to click on the point of the pin, not the head.
