Hi. I need to install linux on a computer and use it as a webserver for a homepage.
Where do I start? ( g i know I have to dl redhat linux first, don't mention it)

1)after RedHat,
2)download www.apache.org and install it, pretty easy, just follow readme files
3)get PHP and install it
4)configure apache , change document root for example, or add virtual directories...

that's it!

Actually you should have apache, php and a bunch of others configurable in the RH setup without needing to download them

But say if I have Mandrake then. 3 CD's.
Maybe mysql php apache is bundled in that

Yep, Mandrake also comes with all that stuff. You'll definitely find RPM packages for Apache, PHP, MySQL on those CDs...

Yeah I actually prefer Mandrake it's sand installs all those for you.

Mandrake 8.2 beta is 3 cds?! I only found the isos for two...

I plan to replace Mandrake on my home machine soon...

Can't decide what to replace it with though - anyone tried SuSE, FreeBSD or Debian?

Those are the contenders at the moment..
