Question:

Client side vs server side programming

Background:
A potential client of mine custom makes large plant pots with all-weather speakers. Target customers are very wealthy and live in warm states within United States. Client wants the web site to have the ability to search dealers by state and if possible, by zip code. I was thinking of doing a simple html drop down menu with the states as the options- hyper referencing each state?s page that will consist of specific dealer contact information. . . but this will get out of hand once more and more states and dealers get added. This would mean I would have to build a page for each state and list each dealer. As of now there are about 40 dealers total, but that number will grow at an estimated 5-10 per month beginning October. The client is in the process of hiring a sales rep to handle all 50 states, so as of now not all states are represented- it will probably grow a few dealers in the East coast, then slowly spread to the lower states (Louisiana, Mississippi) and beyond . . .

I do not have much experience with server side programming, but I am able to follow instructions if I was to download a script and configure it to the site. My gut instinct is to build it with the future in mind- so I am ready to handle as many states and dealers as possible.

So client side vs server side programming? And what are my options. Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks.

CRO8: Server-side - you will bless your forward planning as time goes by

What you want sounds very straightforward - have a look through some of the introductory MySQL tutorials (DevShed has a few that should prove handy) and ask lots of questions

Thanks Emps. Should I assume NT server over UNIX since you mention "MySQL"
