Topic awaiting preservation: Domain registration services (Page 1 of 1)

Not sure this is the right forum, but it looked as close aa any.

Once again it's time to renew my domain name and I have the cheerful letter from Veri$ign to prove it.
I'd like to quit supporting their monopoly, but I'm more than a little paranoid about transferring the domain to another service and then having my name "accidentally" fall into a crack at Veri$ign.

As a further complication, my contract with my hosting service, whom I am very happy with, has another few months to run, so changing hosting services at the same time isn't practical.

If you have any experiences in transferring the registration of your domain, I'd like to hear about them.

Actually, I think you'd get a lot more answers if this were in the main forum. I personally don't think it would be out of place there. Perhaps a passing Mad Sci could move this?
