I have a site hosted with a free web hosting company and all my files are uploaded to their server,
I have duplicates of all the files that are uploaded; for the purpose of keeping them up to date and re-uploaing.
The situation is that I have managed to crash my PC for one reason or another and am now unable to retrieve any of the data, source code, images, nothing - however all these files are still uploaded, functioning as they should be on the web. Can I download the entire site, images and all without having to go to and save page and image individually? I'm fine some workaround solution but don't know where to begin.

How interesting... someone else asked the same exact question in the main forum.

If I didn't know any better (and I don't) I would get the impression that you're posting under two different user names for some reason.

And if that's not the case, I would recommend you taking a look at the other thread anyway for an answer.

You guessed it, I am posting under two different names, or ... well it might look that way for the following reasons;

My brother and I use the same computer and depending on who is logged in at any given time the asylum throws up a diffent user/password auomatically, neither of us bother logging off just post and the sorry fact is most of the time I don't bother changing the password, so really I really am Kalan m, Very observant of you,

Cheers

Well that explains it then, I suppose. But if you use the same computer, why are you located in different areas? Not trying to be a wise guy... just curious, actually.

As for the question at hand, I'm not sure why you can't download stuff you uploaded before. Most free web hosts I know of (although I'll admit that it's been a while since I've used one) have interfaces where you can both upload and download stuff. Is this option not available to you?

OK wise guy -

just kidding...

We aren't really in two different locations, if you must know Josh [sideout] and I Kalan (like Allen with a "K") [Kalan m]
live in eastern Ontario Canada, in a small village called stirling, aprox. population of 8,000.

For more personal information please contact me at my hotmail account - kalanm4@hotmail.com

Thanks alot,

oh and more on subject, no I can't download files once they are uploaded so I'm really in quite a quandry,
or perdicament (unsure of proper spelling).

Cheers,

Kalan

Interesting. Well, in that case I'm not sure what to tell you. I've never encountered a service that lets you upload files but not download them. If that link that Lacuna posted in the other thread doesn't help, I think you may not have much choice but to go in and save everything bit by bit.

What FTP client are you using? It may have something to do with that, becuase it is very, very unusual for a webhost, even a free one, to not allow you to download anything from their servers. Especially if it is you own work.

actually, I know a number of free webhosts without an ftp interface - httrack should still be able to get you your site back, though, since it's gotta be accesible via http.

Well yeah, I know a lot of free webhosts that don't have ftp. I used to use tripod, for example, but that still let you see what was in your account and let you download stuff... strange.
