I'm having a bit of trouble with the animating.

quote:
Right now, you have two frames. select layer 1 in the layers palette, select the move tool, and press the down arrow on your keyboard once. layer one has now moved down one pixel. now, make a new frame in the animation palette. with the move tool and layer 1 still selected, press the down arrow twice. Also, move layer 2 down one pixel. For the next step, create a new frame, move layer 1 down three pixels, layer 2 two pixels, layer 3 one pixel. See the pattern here? All the layers start falling, first slowly, then faster. You'll still need to do the rest of the work yourself, though. next step; move layer 1 down four pixels, layer 2 three pixels, layer 3 two pixels, layer 4 one pixel. Also, make the opacity of layer 1 80%. next frame, 60%, next frame 40% , then 20%, then make it invisible.

Go on with every layer ontil all layers are invisible. Press the 'play' button in the animation palette, and marvel at your work.

I think i've moved the layers down correctly. I ended up with 8 frames. Is this right?

What i cant work out is how, and on which layer/frame to set the opacity.

Thanks to anyone who can help

Quite simple. You only let one of the eight layers drop. in the first frame, the first layer starts moving (one pixel down, to be exact). in the second frame, the first layer now moves two pixels down, and the second layer moves one pixel down.thye all start moveing after another.

Is this a bit clearer now?

I don't think you should ever add images, sure they're good but you have to think less when doing the tute. Less thinking = less creativity... in my opinion anywho.

Nolp: Why are you giving up, that first attempt looks good already. It's only that the layers fade out before they've all dropped down - apart from that everything looks OK to me.

Or are you still trying to include the image directly in your post? You can that by writing its URL between [ img ] and [ /img ] tags (without the spaces).

http://www.ozoneasylum.com/ubbcode.html

If you want to make it a permanent sig you'll have to go to your profile and put the UBB code into the Signature text box.

Yeah i was trying to get it to be a permanent sig. I couldn't work out why it was not working. I now beleive it was because my host did not support outside/external linking. I changed hosts and uploaded my sig. Lets see if i works...

[EDIT] Nope, didn't think so[/EDIT]

Not bad, Nolp. Few tweaks on timing and I think you're good to go. Hang on, it looks like one of the noise layers is off.

I think I came up with a variation that I'm happy with. More of a pixel shuffle instead of decay, but I am happy.

Thanks. This is the first thing i've done in Image Ready. I know its not a master piece but it'll do for my first Image Ready work

I hope to have a updated and, hopefully improved version within the next couple of days.

Oh, there was one thing i was confused about in mahjqa's tut. Whats "matte color" ?

Gif only knows the difference between 100% visible and transparent. Since gif doesn't support pixels which are (for example) 50% transparent, those pixels are blended against the color the gif's going to be used on. Since signatures are generally used on two backgrounds, you need to use the aveage of the two background colors, which is 2B0404. That's what they call the matte color.

There's more info on it here, on the .

Nolp: I now get a 'remote linking forbidden' message where that link was. Rather than trying to work around you ToS (unwise) just use one of the services listed here:
http://faq.ozoneasylum.com/244/

It is now our most popular FAQ by a long way (it gets quite a bit of traffic from Google).

Gah, i cant believe it. Nothing ever goes right for me

quote:
There is quite a call for free sig hosting as a lot of free web site providers don't allow external linking so we've compiled a list of one's we've come across (please read there Terms and conditions first before you upload images - we don't want you spoiling things for everyone else):

AXS Studios image uploader - an impressive (and quick) service which also allows various images to be stored (for 6 months - sigs are stored for longer) - this service doesn't currently seem to be up and runnng (I'll keep an eye on it to see if it is a glitch)

twitch^'s sig hosting service - there might be a problem here.

MaxForums

ImAHosting's sig uploader

SigRealm - offer 1Mb of space and you can store other graphics there too.

your sig host - this site doesn't appear to exist anymore (will check back later).

AXS Studios image uploader - As stated, it doesn't work.

twitch^'s sig hosting service - I just can't seem to get this one to work.

MaxForums - Broken Link

ImAHosting's sig uploader - Looks good but has a 20k limit. My sig is 22k

SigRealm - They're not accepting any new accounts a the moment. If anyone has an old account they want to let me borrow that would be great

your sig host - Again, as ststed, its not there anymore.

Could this get any worse

[EDIT] Hmmm, the 'remote linking forbidden' message has gone and it seems to work again. Wierd

In quick mask you don't need to select anything.

"Quick mask" is a way to edit a selection. If you make a selection (like a rectangular one) and enter quickmask mode (press Q) you'll see that the part that you selected (the rectangle) is see-though, while the parts that you didn't select are colored red. in quickmask mode, you can use the drawing tools to alter the selection you had with the painting tools like the airbrush, but also with filters. Painting with black will make parts unselected, while painting with white will add to the selection. If you press Q again, you'll quit quickmas mode and what you painted will be converted to the selection.

What happens in this step, is that I want 50% of the pixels to be selected. In order to do that, I run the [filter>noise>noise] filter, which gives each pixel a random brightness. Then I use [image>adjust>treshold], which separates the pixels in black (unselected) and white (selected) pixels.

Did that help?

I'm getting lost at the same place. I understand how to get 50% black and 50% white, but I don't know how to select only the black pixels. Sorry for being stupid.

one easy way is to bring up the magic wand tool...turn off contiguous, zoom right in and select one of the black pixels...this will select that black pixel and everything like it in the image.
