Well, folks, another year's almost over so here's a look at the results from previous sig competitions. Emps, I know they're in the faq, but they're not in chronological order so I figured I'd go through and put them in order.

Also, thanks to grumble for the mar01 to mar02 part of the list.

So, here they are, listed by judge, category, and winner:

mar01: bunchapixels (pool) -> mahjqa
apr01: mahjqa (banners) -> docilebob
may01: docilebob (circus) -> kretsminky
jun01: kretsminky (red-x) -> eyezaer
jul01: eyezaer (happy) -> taxon
aug01: taxon (buddy) -> nimraw
sept01: nimraw (cartoon) -> moaiz
oct01: moaiz (godzilla) -> darkgarden
nov01: darkgarden (architecture) -> docilebob
dec01: docilebob (alien) -> vogonpoet
jan02: vogonpoet (wheels) -> warjournal
feb02: warjournal (videogames) -> massacre
mar02: massacre (nature) -> Wakkos
apr02: Wakkos (sports) -> Vogonpoet
may02: Vogonpoet (household appliances) -> Suho1004
jun02: Suho1004 (torture/therapy) -> amerasu
jul02: amerasu (the ancient world) -> docilebob
aug02: docilebob (machines) -> grumble
sep02: grumble (food) -> eyezaer
oct02: eyezaer (disco) -> slime
nov02: slime (rube goldberg machines) -> docilebob
dec02: docilebob (coolest weapon) -> TBA

Also, I just finished putting up my sig history page, so feel free to check it out: Clickie

It'd be cool if we could archive all the entries from previous competitions - not just the winners.

It would be cool, but I'm guessing the bandwidth and storage space of all those sigs would be pretty large.

No more larger than any of the sig hoster's here could handle.

silence: I'm not sure what you mean by them not being in chronological order - the list in the FAQ:
http://faq.ozoneasylum.com/46/

is identical to the one above (as far as I'm aware - if it isn't then feel free to edit the list in the FAQ to correct any mistakes).

Synax: We did think about it but we thought that we didn't want to eat into the Doc's space/bandwidth too much with sig competition entries. I would be open to including the runners up/honourable mentions but it will still be quite a bit o work to grab all of them and upload them and I know I don't have time for it. If someone else was willing then..............

Ok you posted some more thoughts while I was writing my reply - if you were to upload the sigs to the various Asylum sig hosting services then there is no reason you can't drop in any sig entries you want. Its your FAQ add what you like to it - there is no reason why it should just be the winning entry its just that I don't have the time to update the sig competition node with every entry but if you wnt to put the time in then go for it.

I might recommend that you add a subtopic to the competition in which you drop the runners up special mentions and then all the entries but it is up to you - come up with your own solution.

Well you madmen,
there has been an idea floating through my mind for quite a while now...
Distributed Image Hosting.

Basics:
-Inmates with space&bandwidth at hand would donate it by signing up on a form and installing a tiny php script in a folder of their page. They could limit how much space&bandwidth(per month) they'd be donating.
-Images that need to be hosted are uploaded to the DIH-Server. That looks who has capacity and stores the image there.
-Images are linked via the DIH server, which in turn redirects to the real image
-If an inmates cancels his donation, the server would move the images else where, without disturbing the links.
-Same if the bandwidth for a month was exceded.
-Backups of images would be mailed to a trusted inmate, so that if someone just deletes the images folder from the webspace, the server could alert that person and the backup could be restored.

But implementing this would be not a piece of cookie, I tell you.
Maybe when 'the grail' is up and running and I have some time at my hands... What do you think?

so long,

Tyberius Prime

That'd be sweet. People could sign up saying "I'm willing to host up to 5 MB of images with up to 1 GB of bandwidth per month," and the server would keep track of the rest. If we got enough people involved, that could get really cool. Heck, it could turn into a free hosting service for web pages or something. It's a great way for those of us with a little extra web space to help out those with none - sort of like giving away pocket change; it adds up to a lot after a while.

The concept is cool, though I understand implementing it would suck.

it wouldn't suck, the basic concept is actually quite clear in my mind...
It would be just a weekend of work and testing would be hell, I suppose.

But I am sure we can do it, if there was enough support for it.

As TP knows I think the concept is a good one and emminently doable (we've been kicking it around for a while now) - basically hosters can log on and define image size, location (i.e. Asylum only or the Asylum family, GN, etc.), etc. and hostees would then be able to log on and upload files if there is free space to fit their criteria. Everything would be opaque (they'd get an Asylum link which would 'pass through' the graphic) and you'd never know who was hosting your sig so people wouldn't have to worry about people hassling them if their space was down.

So basically people can host as much or as little and set some restrictions and not be bothered by hostees. It is a P2P distributed image hosting network which has to be a good thing

Sorry, Emps, the list was out of order when I was researching the archives and the FAQ. Then again, I could just be suffering from sleep deprivation.

And I have some space and bandwidth also that I wouldn't mind donating.

well, let's have a preliminary 'bandwidth call' to see in what magnitute we'd get the whole thing donated...

I'd suppose I could donate about 30-50 Megabytes of space, and 10 gigs of traffic...
