Here be the place to add your C and C's
[edit] adding image [/edit]

Just a quickie using shapes, layer effects and a little lighting effect, to show the kind of thing I mean, in this instance for a shield
Here I have used the usual yinyang with the PhotoShop eye on the shield to show the other "knights of the realm" my "colours" and tools of the trade.

Hello lovesmilou, and welcome to the Asylum.
I posted some guidelines here March BigSig

quote:
What I'm looking for is either a Flag, Coat of Arms, Ensign, Heraldic Shield or suchlike, there is no need for you to be tracing your own genealogies for this heh (unless that is your bag).

The subject for this month is based around a Heraldic theme, so that is not limited to a shield. For instance I have been trying to make an animated flag, waving in the breeze. So far my attempts look more like a water reflection than a flag heh. I also have a figure of a knight in armour on the workbench, but that is taking a lot longer than I thought so I may keep that for a later date.
Does that make it any clearer? (I'm not too sure)
If you are still in doubt, post up a question and I will try to clarify further.

Not too sure what you are asking for lovesMilou.

There are almost as many tools and filters in IR as in PS. Do you have an animation in mind when you are asking "did you just do it with animated gif's"?
If you show me an example of your work or work you would like to emulate, then I may be able to help you further.

Yeah that looks good.
Now the thing to keep in mind is that this is a sig for the Asylum forums, so fitting in to the colour scheme is a consideration. The shield works well but the background lets it down. The good news is that it is easy to fix if you save it as a tranparent .gif and set the background to #2b0404, (Ah, I remember the days when I thought I'd never remember that number) with the shield on a seperate layer.
Another important consideration is the filesize. There are no hard and fast rules here, as a general principle I set myself a top limit of 50k, but I always aim to get well below that. Usually averaging out at about 30k(ish). Have a look at sigs that you like here, most of them, if not all, will fit in to the above description.
The design of the shield I like. I notice there are fewer jaggies on the smaller version. Looking good lovesMilou

this is just my opinion, but i think it is better with the banner, though i agree with you that it (the banner) needs some work. maybe you could try moving it up a bit to just below the eagle wings, and try a different texture - more cloth-like. the one you're using looks more like a rock texture. otherwise, it's a good start.

I can see what you mean lovesMilou about the banner at the bottom. I think it either needs to be more like draped cloth or perhaps more like metal. At the moment it is betwix styles. If you are looking for a quick fix (relatively) and you are using PhotoShop7, try using shapes. There are a few there banner like. Or check out EzRa-D's links, for inspiration.
Thanks for the input EzRa-D, plenty of info' there.

As a suggestion to everyone/anyone who wants a good way to test your sigs, try this.
While you are reading this, save the whole page to a folder on your computer. Then you can test your sig on both backgrounds before posting.

outcydr, I like what you have done so far. The one in the middle that you have coloured would fit in very well to the Asylum theme, and I also like the paintbrush you have added to the third, Good work.
lovesMilou, I had a quick search for you for a tutorial on adding cloth texture, but could not find one that would suit you exactly. but there are plenty of good resourses out there to assist in other ways. My first suggestion would be to try to draw the shape you want for the cloth banner on a seperate layer above the shield. Look at similar drawing/images for reference, paying attention to how the cloth folds. Then when you have something you like, make another layer above that, and use that layer to add colour. Then make another layer above that layer, and add any shading/highlight you may need.
If this does not work for you, consider not making it out of cloth at all. Try something else like metal. You seem to be able to create a good metal effect.
I'm still looking for the cloth effect you initially desired in a tutorial, and will let you know if I find it.

There are good techniques to make a curtain effect something like this.
Using the gradient tool to make a good displacement map, and then fine tuning it with the "Liquify" Tool can produce some great results.

i only have ie and firefox, so i don't know about other browsers. or even if the code is valid or not. maybe someone can tell me?

V,

Sometimes when you find a crown in an armorial bearing it does not always means royalty. In German tradition some crown may mean that the bearer is a trournament faculty (i.e. Jousting )
