I enjoy chess and, of course, am familiar with Bobby Fischer. However, I didn't know all about his past and his current situation. Here is some fascinating reading for anyone else interested in this once-famous chess champion.

Needs professional help I'd say. A few years back I read another article on his downward spiral... this brings me up to date. Thnx. He's likely a savant (sp?) of some description.

Yeah, it's pretty tragic. In the interview transcript I read, he was talking about how Jews hate elephants because the elephant's trunk reminds them of an uncircumcised penis. Bobby Fischer == insane.

Isn't this kind of thing what makes cliche' ... cliche'? Super genius child chess master grows up to sit outside his shack in the middle of the woods with an automatic weapon screaming at the raccoons because they're Jewish... *shrugs*

I like watching people be insane though, it's funny.

Jewish raccoons... hmm.

I have to say that I never knew Bobby Fischer was such a, um, loon. I'm trying hard to feel sorry for him, I really am. It just doesn't seem to be working.

Hold on a sec, let me check something.

*runs over to the cupboards, opens them, and stares for a few seconds*

Yup, just as I thought. I happen to be all out of compassion at the moment.

See, Suho? This is why you shouldn't shoot Jewish raccoons before you go shopping. Tsk tsk... *shakes head*

Personally I think its sad.

It's almost a combination of John Nash and whatever that Brandan Frieser character in that baseball movie. You know, the one with the guy who only played baseball and was incrediable at that, but couldn't do anything else.

I almost wish I had not read this article. Bobby Fisher was one of my heros as a kid, I remember following the match in '72. When he won it made me feel like my membership in the USCF was special, that being a chess player was something to be proud of. So many years ago... I guess as an adult, I know that Heros are just people, but somehow that dosen't make this any easier to take.

This is very sad.

Yeah, it is sad. I was pretty short on compassion yesterday for a number of reasons, but a couple of pints of Guinness fixed me up.

What's sad about it is not how far he has fallen, but the fact that he obviously needs help (and has needed help for a long time) and he's not going to get it. He's going to continue to deteriorate until he is no more than a shell of his former self. Even more than he is now, I mean.

I always wondered if his ability was only in the game of chess, or if it could be displayed across any strategy games, or even sport strategy.

I'd like to see him play a little Starcraft or maybe even old school John Elway's Quarterback.... oh wait, everyone knows the correct strategy on that one.

Okay, so he's a chess player. Or a QB. Oh, who cares.
