This is a pretty decent article about the upcoming epic, a little long but lots of info: http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/54288p-50909c.html

I cannot wait for this film! It's going to be in Aramaic and Gibsom currently has no plans for subtitles. It's going to be bloody and attempt to portray the last 12 hours of Christ's death as accurately as possible.

"This is a movie about love, faith and forgiveness. He [Jesus] died for all mankind. He suffered for all of us. It's time to get back to that basic message," Gibson said of the film.

I think this is really going to cause a lot of controversey from all different kinds of agendas. Here's an article that hints at one: LA Rabbi Asks Mel Gibson to Reconsider Jesus Film

i love this quote:

quote:
"We have Muslims, Jews, Christians, Buddhists, even agnostics," says Gibson, "and all are working together on this thing in perfect harmony. And they're all getting something out of it ? people have been touched. They ought to let us run the United Nations."

you gotta love mel i'm really looking forward to this as well, its going to totally go against pretty much any sort of film portrayal that's ever been done. i'm not familiar with caravaggio's work, went looking and found this link for anyone else who might be interested, its gorgeous work with an amazing sense of depth to it.

the other things mel has said, that i find fascinating as a designer, is the idea of transcending language barriers thru imagery. that's going to be amazing to see if he can pull it off (which i think he can).
