This was once posted a little over a year ago by our good inmate bugs here in the Philo section.
The thread was so popluar it sparked over 200 posts and a place in the Hall of Fame section.
That thread>>> www.ozoneasylum.com/Archives/Archive-000008/HTML/20020601-17-000363.html

[Emp edit3: fixing link properly - last go.....]

And for those of us who took part it in a long long time ago, we remeber that incredible hypothetical riddle that Bugs posted. It took about a month before anyone could solve it and finally, EMPS got it!
So, here we go. I post a riddle, whoever gets it right posts another riddle and repeat the pattern. And no looking online! That ruins all the fun .

My Riddle:

A six sided die (dice) has three sides that say yes, and three sides that say no.
What is the only factual, non opinion or philosophical-based question you can ask the die, where no matter what the die will always be correct?

Urmmmmm I can't think of one at the moment so the first conundrum posted here (except by InSiDeR as he had the last one) is the next one.

If I come up with one and I'm in time I'll drop it in

Easy one just to keep things moving...

"Angry and hungry are two words that end in '-gry'. There are three words in the English language. What is the third word? Everyone knows what it means and everyone uses it every day. Look closely and I have already given you the third word. What is it? "

bd: Fancy explaining your answer?

I think the asnwer to kret's conundrum is 'language'.

The answer to yours? 2 people called Jill.

[edit: oooops swapping Jack and Jill]

He's looking for the third word. The bit about ending in -gry is just a smoke screen.

um not 2 people named Jill.

bd: LOL - the whole hungry and angry bit is a smokescreen this sentence is critical (I thought its wording was a bit odd but initially missed the significance):

quote:
There are three words in the English language.

So:

quote:
There are three words in the English language. What is the third word?

1 = the
2 = English
3 = language

And yours - OK 2 Jacks then

dan - that's what i was thinking.

or... one figuratively speaking, one literally speaking.

so, jack is literally standing behind jill, and is complaining to her about his broken crown. she sympathises with him, and states her support - thus standing behind him in a figurative sense.
