Now, this is what I call falling down - N.Y. Times Uncovers Dozens Of Faked Stories by Reporter.

I think there were even links to a couple of stories here, in the Asylum...on the Sniper, and Iraq...

As I said before, don't believe everything you read...

Somehow, it makes me happy to be sure I wasn't wrong about American medias... Nonetheless, this is still pretty scary, and should make everyone here wonder about his/her sources of information...

I sincerely hope the Americans here will reconsider what they hear or read in the newspapers or on TV when they will become aware that they are often mass manipulation tools, especially television...

That's horrible. I've never trusted the media over here though.

Yeah, because the foreign media is just so much more reliable.

I love it when stories like this come out and people start saying shit like "only in America," "the American media is so biased," or "it's all a bunch of lies." You don't think the French media skews stories in the direction they want them to go Moon Shadow?

The media is a joke, period. Not just the American media, but everywhere. This guy just happened to get caught doing what happens all over the place.

Mindbender and DL : I can feel your resent thousands of kilometers far

Well, again it seems I expressed myself quite badly... Just to clarify :

I said "should make everyone here wonder about his/her sources of information...". I wasn't excluding mines, that is to say the French medias. I know French medias can be biaised too. However, I think there is a difference with the USA. For example, the TV channel Fox TV, is well known (at least here in Europe) to support Mr. Bush's governement and opinions. I also think Americans are aware of that. As the result, the informations they broadcast are voluntarily twisted to match their opinions... This is a biaised opinion, and I'm sure you knew that. But then, how can you explain me that billions of people watch eagerly these news, trust them, willingly knowing at the same time it's not showing everything of the events ?

So, I know medias are quite the same everywhere, I said it... I just merely wanted to add my point about persons blindly trusting these medias known to be biaised. And I'm sorry, but I only had Americans as an example. I would have gladly said the French if such a thing happened in the past.

nope, no resentment.

simply the need to remind people who want to point to america when any problem arises, that these same problems exist everywhere else as well.

the flaws of humanity are global =)

This was not a case of bias. This was a case of outright fraud. The New York Times devoted four entire pages to this scandal today. This reporter was making up stories and I don't think this is the norm. The idea of reading everything with a bit of skepticism is a given, but you normally expect your news sources to catch such blatant transgressions before they go too far.
