There's a waaay old thread on that...

Anyway, for my name; I once read the Klingon word 'majqa' in a gaming magazine. I'm not a trekkie, but I thought it had a nice ring to it (it'd be pronounced like 'mica') so, I added an H to it to make it extra complicated for people to remember (not to mention to evade the Klingon lawyers), and I stuck with it.

We've had another one of those threads more recently, but I couldn't find... Probably lost in some dusty corner down in the basement.

I "found" my name when I was searching for a good name for a mage I was going to play in a DnD campaign. Found the latin word 'veneficus' that translates to wizard in english. I liked the word so I chose to use it when I needed a nickname online. Can't really remember why I chose to use a 'z' instead of a 's', but there is probably a good reason for it

Veneficuz: Yeah I looked for that thread and failed to find it which is a pity. Anyway I started a FAQ on this:

:FAQ: Where did the inmates get their nicknames from?

As the thread where I answered is missing I am The Emperor (shortened to Emperor for convenience) because I am The Emperor in real life. Around 10+ years ago I got to know a group of guys in my local and they had been calling me The Emperor because they thought I looked like The Emperor Ming in Flash Gordon. Hence shortened versions: Ming, Mighty One and Master (mainly Ming). I went with Emps as a shortened version here (which only a couple of people call me in real life) to avoid having to explain why I was signing off as Ming. There are people who would struggle to tell you what my real name is.

A couple of stories:

A guy I'd known for 15+ years came up to me and asked if I was called the Emperor. He'd been in the car with his mother and they'd seen me walking down the street and she'd said "Look there is the Emperor".

A month ago a friend brought her new prospective conquest to the pub and introduced us as "This is Tom and his girlfirend Jo and Daisy and his girlfriend Luct and this is The Emperor and this is my sister.......".

Its worth pointing out that this isn't unusual and amongst my friends there are: The Warrior, Fruit Bat, Sock, Daisy, Vulgar, Bernie (most people don't realise that isn't his real name - if you phoned his parents house and asked for Bernie they would go and fetch him without comment), etc.

I never really had a nickname that stuck with me through school. My real name being Alice, I got Alice in Wonderland from the time I started school - but for some reason, I resented it then... it's true most of the time now.

When I was in college, a very dear friend started calling me "Bodhi", short for Bodhisattva. Apparently, just because I'm a super nice and generous person.
For those who don't know, in Buddhism, a Bodhisattva is an enlightened being who, instead of moving on towards Nirvana, stays on the earthly plane to assist others in their search for enlightenment. They are known to be very generous.
I wanted to use just "Bodhi" as my nickname, but when I first got connected, the username was taken. I added the 23 as an afterthought (read most anything by Robert Anton Wilson for an in depth look at the number 23...) - it wasn't taken...
Just call me Bodhi...

Yes, that's what I was going to say Bugimus, I like how people here choosed their nickname. Here you go :

Well, I choosed Moon Shadow for many reasons... One of the main reasons is I like a lot watching the moon at night, I can watch it for a long time, always rediscovering its everlasting beauty... I maybe have an exacerbated affinity towards things humans never altered. And, I also was always fascinated by space, stars and such, and the moon belongs to this.

The moon has also lots of effects on humans you know. Even if people say the contrary, I can assure you a lot of them change when the moon is full and bright in the night... And I like it

And well, I sometimes fell very poetic, to be frank I am quite a poetic person, and the moon is an image I always have in my mind for it represents many values that embrace my feelings about love, life, and such...

Furthermore, I also added shadow for some reasons. The first one is that I find the association of those two names quite beautiful. But I also choosed shadow because it sometimes represent me well. You all surely know this type of people that claim everywhere they go, that shout in their cellular phone in the subway so that everyone can hear about them, that always play the interesting. I generally despise such people. On the contrary, I do not show much about myself, and that's why I choosed shadow... I prefer staying more silent, letting the fools speak so much, I do not feel like them this envy characteristic from our century to be assumed and defined only by our relations with others. Not that I'm an asocial, I have quite a lot of friends, I just hardly mix with such peoples, and that's why from their point of view I can appear like a shadow...

So, I am Moon Shadow

My nick actually came from an episode of M*A*S*H I was watching several years back. The outfit's generator wasn't working and they needed to keep a patient's abdomen drained after surgery, but the electric pump wasn't working. So, they slapped together a "Wangenstein pump" out of whatever they had handy (a couple of jars, some tubing, a old can, etc.) in order to save the patient's life.

A year or so later, I was making a Mage character for an 1880s campaign, and wanted to make a mad scientist-type who appeared to be a snake-oil salesman. The name "Harvey Wangenstein" seemed to fit nicely, and the name has become a favorite (and relatively unique) pseudonym of mine.

I am a big fan of A) science, B) history, C) inventing things and D) bodging things together, and so the name of a scientist from history who invented a device you can build from whatever is lying around really appealed to me.

The moth has always been special to me though I didn't know why. I dreamed of them and drew them as a child. Later, I had a spiritual event.

One day when I was in high school, I had a very bad day and was thinking of suicide. In despair, I went into a field behind my house. I was wrapped in a repeating loop of sadness and worthlessness. Self-hatred overwhelmed me. I fell to the ground, striking myself with my fists until I was bruised on the face, arms, legs and chest. Suddenly, I couldn't hit myself anymore. I became aware of a large white thing I thought was a bubble flying toward me accross the field slowly. As it flew closer I realized that it was a moth. It's wings were beating so furiously they were just a blur. It flew up to me and circled me several times. I put out my hand and it landed on it. I stood there looking at the moth and it looked at me. Everything seemed still, like the field was holding its breath. After a few moments the moth flew off my hand. I stood looking at it. I then realized that my problems that I thought were so big were really small. I put aside my desire for suicide and left the field. Since then whenever I feel really down I remember that day. I guess some people may call the moth my power animal. I just know that it's important to me.

Several years on when video games would let you enter names for highscores longer than three letters my friends and I all started using the names of our first D&D characters. I can't really remember why but we just did. This carried over to the net quite well as most of these names are quite rare and unique. To date I've never found any record of the word/name ever being used.

I decided one day, after using the screen names Orion485, Maester Orion, Isotope Or-ion, etc. that i needed an original name. Inspired by names like Morpheus, I changed the spelling of Orion so that you could still see the resemblance if they knew me, something that was similar to Orion (the Orien- part) and a smoother ending like that of morph*eus* (the -os part). I knew it was original and it sounded good I thought. (pronounced: Or-ē-in-ohs). I have also heard that the ending is like that of a suffix that means 'dreams.' But i am not sure how true that is.

tj was taken on one web site so I choose tj9 since I like the nmmber 9.
Since what I liked about 9 was that it was 3 threees I then went to tj333 when I found that tj9 was taken on another site, not sure if that as me from an earlier visit or not. tj333 has just stuck with me since then.

About the only difference between TJ and tj333 is that tj333 meets more interesting people.
