Now that it is summer, it is time for everyone to get busy and start moving around. With everyone moving and on the go, we have very little time to relax. How do you relax? What do you do for fun? I am looking for new things to do this summer and i thought that a little imput from you guys would definately give me a head start. BTW i live in an area with plenty of water and beaches, but most of the things i am used to doing there are getting old. Anyone have any ideas?

Relax? Not sure I know the meaning of that word...

But you live in an area with plenty of water and beaches and it's getting old? Shall I smack you with a fish now, or shall I wait until later?

Ok that was stupid. The beaches around here (anywhere in Washington) are littered with trash, dead seagulls and rocks. They're cold and windy, and the water is freezing. Occassionally, it will get hot, in which case the dead animal carcasses will heat up and smell like shit. But, at least we've got these.

Chill eh? Given the way the weather has been in Michigan as of late, I can chill just by going outside I play a lot of roller hockey. A lot. So much that it's unhealthy for me - it will eventually hit the upper 90s here, and I don't drink nearly enough water when I play. I also play computer games (Diablo II, Brood War, etc), play guitar, socialize, build giant pyramids of mountain dew cans, as well as that whole photoshop hobby bit. Then there's the school & work aspect of my life.

Suaza is nice too.

Of course, if you add some fresh squeezed lime juice to the glass it'll be much much better. Ideally you'd use fresh lime juice for the whole thing, but...by the pitcher that's just not practicle

I also thought of one thing that i have never tried at the beach. JETSKI! You would think that i would have done that already, but until now i didn't know where a place was where i could rent one. Has anyone ever done this before? How do you stop those things anyway?

Hehe...funny story (I've been 'hooked' a couple of times...and even bitten!)

I fish for Pike...here in Germany, Pike reach astonishing sizes - over 1 meter in length! They are amazing predators, and will eat anything that they think they can (waterrats, ducks, rodents, other fish, eel, you name it). If they were bigger, they'd probably eat people, as well...hehe. The females live the longest (and so, are the biggest - Pike never stop growing, as long as the food and size of the water permits) - about 30+ years. Males top out at around 12+ years...not sure why. Pike don't seem to have any fear of humans, as strange as that sounds...they'll bite from under your own feet, and don't shy away like other fish do, at the sight of a human. Oh, and I use a steel leader, when fishing for Pike - they have over 800 teeth! I was once foolish enough to try to remove a hook from a Pike's mouth with my bare fingers...it bit the hell out of my hand! Pike also taste good...hehe.

I prefer to fly-fish for trout, but here in northern Germany, that's impossible.

Pike - wow! Sounds like a sporting good time, actually. I bet they put up a fight once you've got them hooked. But I'd keep my bare fingers away from those toothful mouths too! Eek! It makes me think of the moat scene in Disney's The Sword in the Stone...

James fishes for Bass from the shore. If he had a boat, he'd use it. But he uses lures as opposed to live bait. I imagine at some point, he'll probably talk me into it. He taught my 2 nieces and nephew to fish, and made sure they all caught one the first day. (1/2 acre pond full to the top with Bass, Brim, Carp and Catfish - no surprise there...) Even my youngest niece, who was 4 at the time. He tied a tube lure to the end of her line, with no hook at all, she dropped it in the water right by the shore, and caught a little Brim! She was so tickled...

*edit - sp... damn new fingers...*

This pond where James used to fish has either a catfish or carp in it the size of a canoe! We've seen it, he even hooked it once... after that, we started referring to it as Leviathan... I'm sure if there were more predatory breeds of fish in there, it never would have reached that size.
I may have to give it another try... but we've got to find a new hole first. That pond was on private property of a lady he used to work for. Their work relationship ended pretty badly... no more good fishing hole...

No - definitely carp or catfish. The pond is a manmade one, and stocked by the owners of the land. It's fed by a rain runoff stream, hardly bigger than a creek. That's the reason there are so many fish in it - no predators. It had not even been fished in probably 40 years before James began working there. Lots of brim, big big bass, catfish and carp, and Leviathan! But no predatory fish...

It's the one regret James has about not being able to work out there any more. But she wasn't paying him anything near what he's worth, and expecting him to work like she was paying him twice what he's worth. Had to stop all that - we couldn't afford to live! Now we have to seek out a new place... I bet he'd get a kick out of fishing for pike...
