I have a young friend that may die soon. She would like to leave a video tape for her now 4 year old son to remember her by and I have been charged with the task of coming up with the interview questions. I have managed to dig up Life Review Interview Questions. While it's a good, comprehensive family/life review, I figured I could come here and possibly get deeper.

What would you want to hear from a long departed parent? Any questions you would ask? Any questions, words, memories, anything at all you'd want on tape?

I appreciate any and all thoughful input.

That's very sad, I'm sorry.

I'd like to hear about a parents interests, what they did for fun.
Books they enjoyed (or movies if they weren't readers)
Political leanings + reasoning
Religious or not
Thoughts on education
Their hopes for the future

Most importantly, I'd definitely want to hear about experiences we shared like going to the park, zoo, first words, etc.

Yep what Amerasu said - it is the stories and tales that would really help to shape their ideas of what their parent was like.

Pos. get them to also show photos and objects that have specific significance to them so rather than just being a dusty jug on the mantelpiece it is the thing great Aunt Maude left her in a will.

Also pos. tape them discussing the tales with the participants (like the day they went to the fair with their brother) so relatives and friends can also be placed within the narrative.

This way people and objects become inextricably linked with the person so that things from everyday life have added importance and connection to their mother and are just a continuation of the person's life.

What they've ^^ said PLUS... any and all "HEALTH" issues not just with mother but with other members of her family as far back as she knows.

You may want to do that and other similar bits on a separate tape that can be viewed years later when the child becomes interested in such matters. She could perhaps make mention of these 'other' tape/s in the original.

I'm sorry for getting to this one so late, I missed it until now.

This is such a sad topic it is hard to answer.

I would want to hear how much I was loved. I would want to hear how she wanted me to turn out and what kinds of values she expected of me. I would want to hear hope and strength from her so that I could take it and live my life such that she would be very proud of me. I would also like to hear that someday we would be reunited in a better place.
