What's Hillary going to go after next? Our right to breathe?

Well I'd rather she focused on not making a mess of the Internet as it might stop her from making a complete fool out of herself (and some of you thought she had gone as far as she could go):

Mmm...read that one yesterday Emperor.

Quite the "joke" she made.

I can't think of a better way to insult such a large number of people completely off-handedly.

Perhaps she needs a "gatekeeper" for her speech writing

D'oh... Of course not, she quickly clarified that she respects Gandhi, it's the other billion non-persons her joke was referring to ... 0.o ...

Her "joke" was incredibly stupid considering the politically correct climate in which we all live. However, it was hardly demeaning to anyone. It was based in stereotype and one I suspect is not far from statistical basis. I was surprised that *she* of all people told it though. You would think that a person of the left like Hillary would be far more sensitive to her audience than that.

Intersting.

Out of curiosity (because I find the way racism towards different races works in the US very funny), what would you think if it were say Martin Luther King instead of Ghandi, and she made a crack to the effect of "he used to sit on the stoop all day on fourth st, unemployed, eating fried chicken" ?

It is precisely because there are so many double standards in the way racism is perceived that I think you would *never* hear her say something about MLKJR. Besides the hypothetical you give is far more derrogatory than associating Indians with gas station ownership.

[edit]
HAH!!! This *is* interesting. The reason I said that the three things you mentioned were more derrogatory is actually because I am tuned in to the double standards so deeply that I didn't even realize it at first. Wow.

Hehe

I think the Indian couple a few houses down, in which the husband is an engineer of some sort and the wife a biochemist have a little more cause to be offended by the 7-11 stereotype than the black guy that lives next door and is unemployed, leeching off his girlfriend does over the black stereotypes I mentioned.

Not that I'm saying the black stereotype is more valid than others. Just that the black stereotypes always cause instant offense....

I'm also not disagreeing with or condemning your initial comment - just always very interested in how ridiculous it is in the US that "racism" only seems to apply when it's a white referring to a black.

=)
