I don't really think this is anything new.
Any large organisation be it religious, political, educational, sporting, whatever, has divisions which can threaten torock its foundations.

It is interesting that the Reverend has little faith in his fellowship yet most likely more faith in that which he does not know to be true.

His style of writing is smart and sharp.

And he provides an objective look at Christianity which is somewhat uncommon among Christians (at least those I've seen post here and in other media).

Since religion is merely a reflection of human opinion/emotion/fear/hope, it is only natural that it will be affected the same way as any other facet of society.

It'd be silly to think that religion wouldn't show the same splits and difference's as any other group. The splits within any major religion (and all major religions have plenty) are no different than the splits within any major political party, any nation, any corporation, etc.

Yeah, this has been obvious to me for quite some time now, although I've never heard anyone call themselves a progressive Christian. Are those the Christian's who take only what they like from God's word and discard the stuff which is unsuitable for today's world? Interesting read nonetheless.

When humans are involved, there will always be divides. No matter how perfect God may be, the church is certainly no exception.

This article view is correct. Christianity has splintered into thousands of sects each claiming to be the true christian church. This started with the Protestant reformation led by Martin Luther and even his church splintered in its infancy. But as long as Christian churches teach the Gospels and not teachings contrary to scripture then they belong to the body of Christ too. All Christian denominations should built each other up not put each other down. Per Scripture all churches will unite again and be one body, impossible as this is to believe Christianity be one body of believers in time and I do believe this.
