I've got a file association problem on MAC OS9.22 with Acrobat 4.0 and Acrobat 5.0...

I've started a thread on Adobe's User Forums here

I don't think you can, it as the resource fork appears to be the same for both version.

Your best bet would be to create short cut for Acrobat 4.0 on the desktop and drag-in drop to save a little time.

Ok I used ResEdit to change the application from APPL to APP8 and the Creator from CARO to CAR8 and this has the effect of disabling Acrobat 5.0. Acrobat 4.0 now natively opens pdf files when I click to open them. I reverted the ResEdit changes to 5.0 and it renables the application with no damage. Woohoo, I'm happy cause I don't have to remove 5.0 from my system entirely in order to make things work.
