I'm using Quark Xpress 5.0 and know there is a format called Xad for exporting ads.
But what is it, more exactly and how do you create it?

I couldn't find any info about it...

Hey Flyer....

x-ads is a format for creating ads for print. It checks for true type and RGB and OPI-files. Create an EPS-file from Quark or whatever application you use and then throw it on the x-ads application and then save it with the proper information. Check out this site: http://www.tu.se/article.do;jsessionid=561731032872052984?category=194

Still, there wont be anymore upgrades of x-ads since the pdf-flow has taken over. To be able to check PDF-files in the same way you need a program like PitStop from EnFocus for example.

The program is free if you are creating ads for a magazine that is connected to TS (Tidningsstatistik)

Hör av dig om det är något mer du vill veta om det.

Thomas

Hi Tommy, (I do this in english if others are viewing)

I found out about x-ads but unfortunately it's only for mac and I am on a pc.
I also found out about pitstop but my company isn't connected to TS..

Another question though, when you want to create an eps in Quark you can
"save as eps-file"... but my fonts doesn't get included! Could be because they
are true-type fonts and not postscript-fonts?

Well, thanks anyway..

Hi there flyer!

Well, the graphical business is dominated by Mac so....but isn´t there a pc-version? I´ll have to check that out.
About Pitstop it´s not free at all. It´s a commercial program, so that one you´ll have to buy.

That is one of quarks pitfalls....saving EPS with the program´s own EPS-function because it doesnt work....it doesnt include the fonts properly.
I use an exension called PageShot for saving EPS-files. Quark relies heavily on the extension developers...Actually, wouldn´t get much work around here without them, he he...But the program itself is very stabile, and I have been using it for ages so....

Read more about xtensions at the quark website... there is a catalogue in pdf-form...

What work do you do??

Sincerely yours

Thomas

I work as a graphical designer, creating ads, folders, webdesign etc and I'm using Quark Xpress 5.0 Passport Edition.
My only wish is that I would have a mac instead since it's a standard in the industry.
