Hi all.
At work we?re looking for a new RIP to drive an Epson 10000. The choices so far are the Colorburst and one made by Epson. I was wondering if anyone here uses one of these and can tell me if they work as advertised or have any complaints about them.
Thanks in advance.
Dave..

I hate it when I see posts no-one has replied to. Obviously the folk here aren't into high-end RIPs. Can I suggest you go to the comp.publish.prepress newsgroup (not sure if this link will work).

I've got a RIP, just not one of the two you're asking about.

We got some rips at our work..yet not those mentioned.
I don't know how our Fiery is going in comparrison with the ones you talked about.

Jeni we have two, but only use one.

The other belongs to an out of use copier.
The working fiery is atached to an Xerox Document-Color 40 with an automated paper feeder. Which i am going to push over our 11th story balcony some day.

The Xerox machine is absoluty not consistent in quality nor in his colors. When the humdity is too low it is not even usable for printing anyway.

I like the fiery though but it might be a bit faster sometimes. Yesterday i waited almost 45 minutes before it was finished ripping... Maybe i should not send it full-colour files with more than 25 pages from over 125MB per file.
the Ripfile was over 600MB(!)

Yup, that's why the Xerox rep will tell you to flatten and convert files into smaller versions before sending print jobs. Not very streamlined for a production artist, but very telling of the limitations of the technology.

Minbender they where sended as an .pdf file. As far as i know .pdf files can not be flattened in anyway.....
The files only grew big due to the papersize i needed. All 25 pages where 12"x18" or A3 oversized and printed in fullcolour from edge to edge. I realy don't know how to make them any smaller.

And yes we are working on the edge off the technology and stretching it from times to times....heh.
Cousing the Xerox mechanics to come by at least once a week (praise the full-service contract we have).

But we are in printing on demand business, and most of our clients have color inkjet printer which gives some nice printing. As a result they want full color printjobs from us for their business cards flyers and posters.
The technology from inktjets is going much faster then the laser/toner technology from machines like our Xerox.
And since machines like this cost as much as a medium ferrari it takes some time before the ROI (return on investment) will happen. This also emphasises the techonoly is on the edge.
