Here's what we've come upon for the guidelines for participating in "matches" here.

Post in the "I wanna play" thread. Add which you'd prefer to play - either a time based game, or turn based. Time limits of around 30 minutes add an extra challenge, but you and your drawn oppenent will need to work out when you can spare the time (when to begin).

Time limit or not, for a match to be "complete" the image must be altered by each artist at least 4 times.
When each alteration is complete a .JPG image should be posted to your game thread, and the PSD (zipped if possible)
sent to your opponent. How you get it to them is up to you, email, ICQ, Website, FTP etc. But make some noise in your thread about it.

The artists will decide when an image is complete (game over) but 4 alterations per player must be made.

Try to keep as much correspondace in your game thread. ICQ and/or Email is helpful but we want to hear what youre thinking. Most members have contact information in thier profile however.

To begin - Names will be taken from the "I wanna play" thread, randomized and paired off. Each 'Draw' will be posted to the "Upcoming Events" thread.

Check this thread to see who you're playing - who is 'serving' the first image will be posted here also.

Once you know, get ready.

The person serving should start a thread in this forum called something like "YourName vs YourOppenents"
(example : "Taxon vs Weadah", its up to you but be descriptive), and post the initial image. If you havent contacted your oppenent or dont wish to, provide a link to the relevant PSD or ZIP file in your post also.

Your opponent should then collect this file (either from you or the link provided) and continue on, posting a progression pic and relevant PSD or ZIP info (again if your not in contact) when done.

There's no rule as to how you alter the image or how many layers you add, but be courteous to the previous artist. Build on what you get and have fun with it. There are no winners.

After things get going... we'll open it up so you can challenge certain people, rather than randomly being paired off.

With this being a new idea, we are sure to make changes to the outlines listed above... but this is what we will start with.
For now, we'll be looking to set up One vs One games. Depending on the intrest level... we may bump it to Two vs Two.... or Three vs Three, and we even have a few other odd ball ideas for even larger groups of people.

In the spirit of this whole thing, audiences are encouraged to comment as the image progresses.... but do everyone the favor of leaving your sig at the door. Some of these threads are going to get large in size as is, without 15 sigs getting thrown in the mix.

I'm thinking that perhaps we should be assigning "first serve" priviledges based on something other than concensus amongst the players, put a little more pressure on each other, perhaps? Maybe we could have some of our more programing-oriented members work up some kind of a random assigning dealie-bob, with maybe a tree of matches leading to matches? Lots of fun to be had with this from the back end, methinks.

OK, I was doing some reseacrh, and I notice that the "Official" rules have some heavy limits thrown in, like you only get to add one layer to the image, each time! I suppose you could smush them all together at the end of your work, but that'd be OK I guess. I found myslef *really* fighting hard not to add layer after layer, especially when I get thrown a heavy top spin on the ball, heh.

Yep... we weren't real big on that one layer idea that they have going on the site we pulled this game from....
So that's why we adjusted to "There's no rule as to how you alter the image or how many layers you add" for the Ozone version.

Hmm, I can think of many things that could and should be done for this, but I hope to pass off most of these duties to the instigators of this plot, Weadah and taxon. I know both of them have travel plans in the near future though, perhaps we'll have to wait before taking off on this? We'll have plenty of action here as it is, let's see how it goes for a few more days, cool?

I've noticed a lot of people have been merely supplying *links* to the jpegs rather than putting them right in the topic.

I understand that this helps people with slow connections, but it's a bit of a nuisance for those of us with fast connections. Might I suggest that the *first* image in the thread is displayed, instead of linked to, so that we have an idea if we want to look at the progression of the game?

I know it's a bit more work, but perhaps posting thumbnails (small or 50%-size) would do the trick.

I noticed that my match (ie thread) vs Shii was kind of slow in the end, but it must have been on valium for dial-uppers. However I think that some kind of graphic presentation of the alterations would be nice. Makes the match much easier to follow..

The problem is that some people can get hosting where they can put their pics but not show the thumb (which is better for us slow connection people) in the thread. Until something is sorted it might be a good idea for anyone interested to offer a bit of bandwidth (I'm working with DarkShadow to host his pics so they can be inserted into his match with ata). Just a thought.

Yea Emp is right about the hosting, some have it and some don't, What I would say is make a list of FREE hosts that give direct linking for the images. Then have it ine the rule post at the bottom of it. It might help people like me even tho I have two hosts one is mine and the other is shared and is just for my portfolio site.

Emp: check mail please

If any person does not reply with in a week (7 days), either be email, post in forum, ICQ,ect. Then some else waiting for a game should take over from the person that has not replyed back to that game.

What do you think about this?

I was thinking about this, time-based vs. turn-based games. I know that there have been a few time-based games, with like 3 hour limits, but most people seem to opt for turn-based, it's hard to allocate a full day for a game. I was thinking that perhaps *all* games should be time-based, just that the default could be say 3 days, which should be enough time for most people. (That comes out to 21 days, 3 weeks! Generous, to my thinking.)

It'd be fun to do a game with a tiny small image, say SIG-sized or maybe up to 400x300, and play a game with a 1 hour limit (or even less!), it'd be over in the course of a day. I'd think exchanging ICQ numbers could be handy for this kind of game, you'd want prompt notice of when the new images were available, methinks.
