Next month i will be purchasing a new DC, ihave the fujifilm Finepix 2800z at the moment, and feel its time for an upgrade,i wont have this sort of money again, and want to make sure i get something that will last the test of time.

Is this the right choice ? Fujifilm Finepix S7000

If you feel there is a better optin out there, then please feel free to let me know.

What i need is a good point and click camera, but has the capabilities to be controlled manually for when i am a bit more experienced.

I'm partial to the Sony line of cameras but that seems like a decent choice.

Personally I'm impatiently awaiting the arrival of the Sony DSC F-828.

Oh, if you go with that one, definitely buy a couple extra battery packs to go with it.

I'm still waiting for an announcement on the price but I know that I'm going to pick one up soon after it hits the market.

I love my F-707 as does Shiizzzam. Mobrul also just got his hands on one and really likes it as well.

It will have a 7x zoom and 8 MP.

There are tons of improvements in this one over the 707 which I already love.

MSRP will be $1200. I'd guess street price will be somewhere around $900-$1000. Nice looking camera. I'm a bit concerned with noise, as cramming a lot of pixels on a tiny sensor has historically lead to lots and lots of noise, even at low ISO. Be interesting to see how Sony has dealt with the issue.

As a side-note, Canon is releasing a "10D light" in the same price bracket. Full digital SLR, only slightly fewer features than the hugely popular 10D. $900 with no lens, or $1000 with a basic lens included. The competition should be interesting, as many people who are looking for a very high-end P&S would be intrigued by a digital SLR for roughly the same price.
