Topic: rule of thirds (Page 1 of 1)

As i begin to get into photography, i've been reading up on different techniques and such. One of which was the rule of thirds. I've been reviewing some of my older photographs and trying to see how the elements fit within this rule of thirds. I was wondering if anyone knows of a quick and easy way to get grid lines at the thirds in photoshop. As it is now, i've just been estimating and using guides. Works fine and all. But it'd be cool if there was some type of action or something that i could set up. Maybe i'm dreaming....

well, should have looked alittle harder before i posted. i figured it out. If you go to preferences->guides, grid and slices . Then set the grid to have 1 subdivision every 33.3 percent it works very nicely to put lines at the thirds. you can toggle the lines on and off using ctrl-" . seems like that could be useful.

I used to have string strung across my tv....

You could create an action that sets a guide at 33.3% and 66.6% and set it to a function key. I did this to make center mark guides (50% vert, 50% horiz). The only real advantage is that you could then use your grid for something else at the same time as the guides were visible. Also, guides are usually a bit more visable by default than grids.

I am lucky that my camera has a built in Thirds display on the LCD viewfinder, but i keep forgetting to use it ! Thanks for reminding me.
