My lovely girlfriend got me a fun new toy for Xmas - a Canon S9000 printer. It can print photos up to 13" x 19". I've only printed two giant photos so far because the paper is about 25 bucks for 10 sheets but the quality and speed is amazing. It finished both the large prints in well under 2 minutes and the quality is great. I was kind of worried that 5 MP wouldn't be enough raw size to get a good print. Even though the max res I can get from a 5 MP shot is 134 DPI at that size the quality is still very good. You can only spot flaws when you get right up close to the photo.

Here's some photos:

Takes up a bit of space eh?

Sample print with a sheet of letter-size paper for comparison:

very nice though, impressive stuff.

i'm tempted to print it, so that i can have a printout of a digital photo of a printout of a digital photo.

reitsma, if you do that, get kretz's 5 mp shot of the printout... or else you may start to lose some quality of the photo on the print of the printed photo.

Hey, that's my printer!

I love it. I have two zoo pictures (both tiger shots - love tigers) in my cubicle at work. 12" x 16" prints with those frameless frames. You know, a plate of glass with a backboard and some clips.

I get dozens of compliments from passers-by. They can't believe the shots are digital photo -> inkjet printer.

Yeah Das, it's sweet man. I still can't believe how fast it prints large photos. Plus it's so quiet you barely even know it's working.

My old S800 is a good printer too but it's one loud, slow beast. It shakes my desk while it prints.

That's a sweet printer

This is a great way to up your dpi for prints. I printed the chart and have it taped on my monitor for quick reference.
