Last night Jo and I went to the gallery opening for a friend of mine from high school. The guy is seriously talented so I knew it would be interesting.

The exhibit is called "The Private Sea" and it is pretty amazing. He built an enclosed 8' x 8' cube which he stayed inside the entire night. The walls of the cube were a translucent material (I couldn't quite figure out what it was) and they were backlit. The walls of the cube started out blank but over the course of the night he used black magic marker to create intricate designs on the walls. The backlighting worked in such a way that you could not see him at all unless he was writing on the wall. Then all you could see was the point of the marker and the resulting lines.

He had a huge projection screen near the cube on which were projected all kinds of images ranging from normal photos to abstract collages. There was a security camera inside the cube and you could go into a seperate room and watch what he was doing on a small closed-circuit television. He'd created a soundtrack that was about 45 minutes long and looped continuously. He did all the music himself. Actually, he did everything himself, thus the title: The Private Sea (privacy).

It was very cool. I used Jo's camera to take a few pictures while we were there.

I like to go and see new "stuff" like that myself krets, I find it very innervating. I've been told I am a pain to go with though, not being satisfied to, "just take in the artistic whole as a complete entity" I have to know just how is that done
So I wont ask the more mundane question,,
the one that nearly every school kid asks the astronauts,,
most definitly not

haha I was wondering that myself. Especially since there was a closed-circuit security camera pointed at him the whole time!
