Anyone know why / or how the installation of a software program could cause your sound level to decrease.

I installed Dragon 5.0 onto my cpu and when done the volume level decrease momentuly. Where it used to be loud, I have to set the volume all the way up to even hear the sound.

I am using Sound Blaster software. Anyone know how or why this would happen. And if there is a way to fix this. I believe the speakers still work, and I am getting sound just not the sound I was looking for

So you think that I fried the sound card? or is it some software settings that need to be adjusted?

i'm not an expert, but it sounds like some settings need to be adjusted. i've never used dragon, so i wouldn't know what to expect. installing software shouldn't damage your speakers...just my thoughts...

I thought the same. The thing is, all of the sound properties in sound controls are set to max sound, and the sound is still minimual. I have reinstalled the driver, as well as all the normal things, checking the connection, mess with the properties in the multimedia area... and still no change.

Well, it would help to know what Dragon 5.0 is. Also, there could be a bunch of other factors. I would have suggested checking all your sound volume levels (line in, wav, midi, etc.) but it looks like you already did that. If you have Windows, then you could probably reinstall everything but I doubt that would be much of a solution.

Again, post what exactly Dragon 5.0 does and maybe that'll help.

As a side note, I have a Soundblaster and although it is a great card, there are a few issues, as with any piece of hardware. Once, for no apparent reason, I couldn't install any programs. The install always froze. I reinstalled windows and all my other programs and it worked fine after that. Anyway, we'll see what else could be the problem.

Maybe try to uninstall Dragon 5.0 and see if that helps. If it does you know what the issue is then...

i searched for dragon 5.0. i'm pretty sure it's voice recognition software. i don't really know how or why anyone might use it, but that's what i found.

It is voice recognition software. I have reinstalled windoze, I have not formatted.

The use is to write up papers faster, as well as to not have to be at the computer to use message software, as well as to relax as I code
