hehe... well.... here we go...
anyone wanna take some potshots at me.... let's hear it..

I'm billing this site as:
A site attempting to cause the many mindless drones of our society to step back and think for once in their lives. People often need to be pushed to the brink of insanity to see the "light" of their place in this confusing world of politics/love/hate/borders/tradition/history,etc. That's where filter-line steps in. A continuous wafting of reality that only gives you enough of a taste to want more.
Images, words, thoughts ---> That's what this is all about.

you may have seen my 2 little sigs for it popping up around here a bit...

and

I have pretty big plans for this site..
For now, I'd like your feedback on the overall 'experience' of this site.
How does it hit ya?
Good, Bad....??... and more importantly WHY?

Critique the graphics, the layout, the wording, the articles, the use of color, the navigation.... and whatever else strikes your fancy....
This is an open critique... hit me with whatever you've got... I'd like to hear it.

And if your some off the wall reason, you don't want to post it here.... e-mail it to me.... or catch me on ICQ and engage in some conversation.

I wanna hear what you're thinking.

.::. GET FILTERED .::.

-Mike-

edit: btw, I'm aware of the small 'breakage' in NN

the front page, main.html, is really the only one I have a problem with design-wise. First it should tell the viewer what the site is all about. Seems to me that it's supposed to be about making you think" but unfortunately the wording, phrasing, feel of this statement on the first page is a bit esoteric. I'm afraid that if you want people to frequent the site you need to let them know what it's about in no uncertain terms, and quickly, on the front page. As it stands it looks like another blog but from what you've said in here and other places it's s'posed to be something more... Plainer language and more to the point is called for I think. And yes, I see the irony here. Irony is cool, huhuh, huh.

Secondly on the subject of main.html, it's 'liquid' design is strange. It's really fixed-width with the 3 columns but there's apparently a couple of columns in there just for expanding horizontally, this makes it look askew at higher resolutions. Frankly I don't mind the left aligned look of the interior pages at all and think you would have much better layout control and a more pleasing presentation across resolutions if you dropped the 2 'expanding' columns in this page. The layout of the interior pages I like much better for consistency and design, the main looks like you're trying too hard too me. The interior pages are perfectly acceptable and I think you should consider using this same design for the main page as well. Looks like you're afraid that no one will look at your cool pics so you're gonna slam them up on the front page, where I frankly don't think they fit in. They are however really cool as stand alone images in your gallery. I like them alot, especially the 'prone' looking upper bodies.

I like an utterly useless splash page myself but I really do find them irritating if I go to the site a lot. Yours loads fast though and the poem on there is striking, I like it a lot. If you're expecting regular visitors you may wanna ditch the splash.

The overall mood is dark, you've got a lot to celebrate though I would think but this is your call. Don't let the web dictate what you do, dictate what you want it to do for you, it's there for you. It looks like your joy comes from the painting, paint then make a page for it something like this: <html><head><title>my pic 1</title></head><body bgcolor="#cccccc"><img src="mypic1.jpg"></body></html> if you have to. I may be way off base here but you asked for a broad range of commentary just have a feeling.

It's also a little busted in NS and you should seriously consider style sheets, at least to get rid of the font tags. This is very easy to do and affords you a lot more flexibility in the future.

Can't wait to see more.

Well I appreciate the comments.
I'll think about some of them.

As I mentioned in my other post.. I knew about the breakage in NN...
The article in there about 'Filter Creation' kind of explains my non-usage of CSS...
It'll be converted when I do my first site overhaul.

Thanks again for the comments...

Anyone else have anything to say?

tee-hee-hee

I'm here to say a few words about filter-line. 'cuz that's what I do. I talk about design with the audience in mind while contemplating the usage of imagery to convey ideas. So I'll get right down into it, my friend.

First and foremost, the splash page is 100% superfluous. It's not launching a flash site, a pop-up, or anything proprietary whatsoever. So you could effectively get rid of it, as it's not doing you any good other than making me wonder what to click and why. ~smiles~

Once inside, I'm overwhelmed by the color choices. Green, white, black and a touch of orange. An interesting palette. Since it's a personal-esque site, I can't say that it's bad--it's good because it's different. Kudos.

The content is kinda hard to read for those of us that are (not-so) slowly becoming blind. Might want to increase the letting (line-height in css) a bit, so the lines are spaced out more.

The menu is kinda hard to see, but that might be my gamma settings. Just the same, you might want to make it a touch lighter, or larger.

Inside, I'm blown away. I don't have anything (save for the letting commentary) to add. Absolutely beautiful.
