A sig represents you, so whatever you feel best shows us who you are, that's what you want in your sig.

My sigs. Not all of them. Not quite as diverse as some of the other collections. But each one does say a little bit about me and my journey with PS. Maybe it's time I step it up a bit, eh?

Damn, VP. I know you have a lot of sigs, but I didn't realize you have a *lot* of sigs.

A sig is something that you stealth(sp?) from another.....

A sig can be whatever you want, but if you want it to be critisized (sp?) it will be! and everybody will give his opinion, like it or not!

So, sometimes (unless you need an advice) it's better to just show the sig as a sig, and not ask for critics if you are not REALLY interested on improve your sig and made a previous effort making it.

Allright. Some people may mistake two things, I call 'em taglines and signatures...

A tagline is something like "I used to be schizophrenic, but we're okay now" or "play.fiddle.learn" or "specialisation is for insects" or "If you can't convice, confuse" or "~Binary is best~" (see where you can find 'em!) taglines can be both plain text or incorporated in your signature.

A signature is a picture, beneath your post (duh) with, in general, your online alias. (in my case, Mahjqa. duh again.) In general, it's a bit showing off your PS skills, you try to make a pretty picture out of it. In my opinion, a perfect sig would:

a) be not higher than 64 pixels, and not wider than 400 pixels (theoretically 500 pixels, before the horizontal scrollbars of death turn up) but please don't make your sig both 64 pixels high and 400 wide, make it less high as it gets wider.
b) small in bytesize. Below 10KB is perfect, below 20Kb is acceptable, below 30 KB would be okay if you don't change sigs every-so-often adn 40KB would be the maximum. Remember, some members here are still on dialup and it may take them a lot of time to download all the sigs if they're humongously big.
c) it shouldn't clash with the colorscheme of the forum.

This sig may cause retina burns, since the green stands really out against he darker color of the forum.

Whereas this sig uses the exact (well, almost) colors the forum has, and blends in with the forum nicely.
d) Please use some transparency. In everyday surfing we see a lot of square, ugly banners, so please don't do that here.
e) The sig should match both forum colors, darker and lighter.
f) (result of d & e) use *.gifs for your sigs. *jpg doesn't support transparency.
g) and sometimes people like to add a tagline (see above) to their sigs.
h) also optional: linking your homepage to your sig. an example:

{URL=http://www.mahjqa.com/} {IMG}http://www.mahjqa.com/sigs/dolphin2.gif{/IMG} {/URL}

replace the right adresses with yours, replace the { }'s with [ ]'s and you're done.

You don't really have to follow all these guidelines, they're just rules of thumb.
*looks at list* uhm... I thought that'd be it.

I'm sure I've broken all those rules at one time or another. *shrugs*

I don't think there's any one formula for a good signature. It's the composition of the whole that makes it successful.

Anyway, the point of this post is that I now have a sig page of my own:

And yes, that's some damn good banner-ad and popup-ad hacking.
