As it looks like, my next course is Java introduction. here is the book that we will be covering.
I like to test stuff on my own computer (Win2000 Pro, AMD...). As I understand, I will need a Java-compiler.
Can anybody point me to it? I guess it is on Sun.com or so.
What do I have to do to test my little programs? I would be even happy with a small .exe written in Java, compiled on my computer, that says, "Hello, World".

Thanks in advance.

Here is a book "Thinking in Java" ready for download. I had this in my bookmarks. Might be of interest for somebody :-)

uh, you should not write your code in the jdk\bin directory.
make a new folder for storing your projects. c:\javafiles\ for example.

and if you dont like jbuilder, i recommend www.textpad.com

Thanks guys, I'll do that.
I'll buy the course book soon, so you can expect my questions very soon

GRUMBLE, I am so used to UltraEdit that it is hard for me to switch to any other text editor.

Yep, Text Pad is awesome! Be sure to download the syntax highliters, it makes it nice and handy. You can configure TextPad to output the text but it can't do stuff that is interactive. Does that make sense? Like if you type it in TextPad and then have it ask questions and wait for a response, it doesn't work.

If you like UltraEdit, there is also SlickEdit which has little drop down boxes that can either be handy or a crutch.
