Iv heard a lot about the 20 liners, a competition held on ozone a while back. That was before my time, and I was just wondering if there was a chance of having another round of it. I have no idea how the original worked (judging, what defined a "line" etc), but I was wondering if anyone would like another?
Personally, Id love a competition to work towards!

The previous one was entitled Return of the mighty 20 liners..
That kind of challenge is always stimulating and I'd be please to enter such a "contest". Obviously it's not really a contest, it's in the same spirit of the monthly sig. contest of photoshop pongs.

The rules weren't clear so for my entry I decided to stick to these ones :
1. Function's declaration doesn't count as one line.
2. Comas are forbidden when they can be replaced by a semicolon.

Just as a hint, you can use [ page ID ] to quickly insert a link to any page here, so [ 18451 ] without the brackets automatically becomes Return of the mighty 20 liners..

kuckus: thanks, I wasn't sure of the syntax, and too lazy to check it while writing my post

Yeah, that's understandable - just leaving hints here and there so people get familiar with the new possibilities.... =)

I suggest that, rather than a line system, we do it by the file size, the the5k.org, but not 5k, and only DHTML.
3k maybe?
Of course, its not really a contest, just a bit of fun, like poi said.
Would many others enter?

I'm glad it wouldn't be a contest, because I'm sure I would get spanked by most everyone here. But that has never stopped me before..... You can count me in for the next 20 liner.

Or the next 3-5K, as long as we are talking coding not running!

I agree with Ini, I think it should be on a certain theme. How about it has to have something to do with producing/creating graphics. Though I reckon, since its not actually a contest, we should go with the most free set of constraints - 20 lines again (also because Iv been thinking about what I'm going to do if its 20 lines )
So:

Same rules as last time
20 lines
theme of graphic creation for first contest
one month/contest
winner sets the next theme

Sound reasonable?

Please explain to me(since I tend to be a bit slow) how there can be a winner if it's not really a contest.Would that be 'not really the winner' , or what?

nope, ur not being slow, im being stupid
We (we being those who take part) will just sort of choose arbitrarily. When I say not a contest, I mean it shouldnt get too competitive. Its all fun!
Dunno if Im setting it up to be to uncompetitive, but its just that it is all in the name of fun (and showing off )

wrayal: I'm no authority but I'm ok. To clarify and announce the thing, we should probably follow the path of the sig contests and create 2 threads called :

April JavaScript contest - Graphic creation in 20 lines - entries
April JavaScript contest - Graphic creation - comments

[edit] norm: look at that thing like the monthly sig contests or the photoshop pongs. [/edit]

yep, I think the two rules I mentioned in my first post are the most basic and easier to understand. It's certainly worth showing a code snippet in the threads announcing the April Javascript Contest to illustrate them and eventually a counter example of the 2nd rule. Indeed, as a monthly contest ( that time frame is wide enough to let several people work on an entry ), the deadline should be the last day of the month.
