For thousands of years now religious mystics from all over the world have been saying how the heart is the primary tool for our understanding of nature and the world around us. According to many religious idealogies, the heart is actually a brain. Interestingly enough, Science is now starting to find that these long held religious idealogies are perhaps more true that we originally believed. This is some very interesting stuff, I strongly suggest reading the interview below, and also any books by Joseph Chilton Pearce, which can be found at Amazon.com or anywhere else.

quote:
1999 Interview - The idea that we can think with our hearts is no longer just a metaphor, but is, in fact, a very real phenomenon. We now know this because the combined research of two or three fields is proving that the heart is the major center of intelligence in human beings.

What does this mean for our basis of understanding how we as humans think? And more than this, if we could perhaps learn to better raise our children with love and compassion, could this end the violence that is so rampent, especially in American inner-cities. And even if this is so, is it possible to change the cycle of violence and anger that already exists?

I think its pretty stupid...all body responds to messages sent to it from the emotional brain, not just heart...
it includes all the organs, nervouse system, muscles, etc....for exemple when food looks good, you are more willing to eat it and are more likely to enjoy it better, than the food that looks bad.
The same thing goes for whatever you do, if you are in bad mood there is a good chance you gonna do lousy job, no matter what you do.
----------
violence will never end...as long as human exist there will always be violence, even if we humans ceased to exist, there still will be violence among other spieces but not as much as while we are here.

People will always disagree among many things, phylosophies, ideas, religions, etc. This is what afterall makes us what we are...people.

But all of the body does not have ganglia and neuron cells like the brain and heart.

We have done so.

All you have to do is watch a child sitting there like a zombie watching television to understand it.
I'm not saying TV is all that bad, to a certain extent, but I remember once when the power went out
for for a week and all these kids were running around playing, and I didn't even realize that all these
kids lived in our neighborhood because apparently most of the time they are just inside playing video
games, or internet, or watching TV.

In his book, he does list several scientific studies done, actually, by people at harvard.
I am at work, but will get back to this tomorrow.

Institue of HeartMath

This is a non-profit organization that specifically studies the connection between the heart and brain.
Maybe there is some stuff in there that would interest you.

I just checked some research publications, and the ones that say,
'Download the Adobe Acrobat PDF' underneath seem to be free...

As far as the other stuff you said, the part about the Sweden study where kids are 'never violent'
seems to be a bit stark, it probably has more to do with the environment not being so harsh in Sweden.
I'm sure if this same study was done in the inner-cities of New York, the results would be much different.

And I agree it's pretty far out there, but I just like to post interesting things that you guys wouldn't normally read.
I didn't mean to strike a sensitive nerve for you...

But on a side note, I met Mr. Pearce (His daughter went to a Waldorf school my sister-in-Law teaches at) and he is a very
sincere person who is greatly concerned with the welfare of the children in the country and he is trying his best
to get people to realize the importance of proper raising, and love of their children.

I don't think you overreacted at all...
It's cool, yo'. I'm glad you brought up those points
because it made me look at this stuff in a different way.

There is this really simple thing at the HeartMath website that I found interesting, they have done
studies on people by monitoring the patterns of their brain waves and heart waves, and found that
the normally irregular patterens became balanced after performing this technique, any way...
here is the technique --> Freeze-Frame
(I couldn't find the actual technique described on the HeartMath Website, but they are the ones who devoloped it.

Also, here is good reference --> Science of the Heart

And here is a picture of the heart electromagnetic spectrum
