I know, I know, there are a zillion and one tutorials on the net on how to make a pillbox button. However, this begs the question

- Isnt there simply a plugin that can do it for ya?

Friend of mine isnt very photoshop savy (neither am I), and he just wants to be able to select a colour and a size, and have a pillbox button pop up.

any plugins out there tahat can do this?

If one just wanted something like that, then why doesn't one just search the web for any of the hundreds of free pill button images already out there? Barring that, layerstyles will give you a much better button than any plugin could do. Try playing with the contour and gloss contour feature of the bevel and emboss setting. You can get some really interesting highlights with it. Then all you'd have to do is drop a color overlay and lover the fill opacity of the layer. Then the style could be saved and used regularly.

Another route would be to record an action. Just follow one of the many great tutorials out there while recording your action. Leave things like color arbitrary and add an adjustment layer afterwards, or insert a 'stop' during the process when you need to add color.

Keep in mind these are just ideas. Run some samples by us and we'll be happy to give you more information.

Oh and to answer the direct question, no. I don't know of any plugins.

Edit: Replaced 'reflections' with 'highlights'

There are non-Photoshop programs to do that, search for button creator program on Google, for instance

The GIMP can do that. You'll have to look at the script-fu and change some things to make it look like a pill. There isn't a standard pill button, but the script-fu examples should be enough that you can make it yourself. There is one example that does mouseover/down as well.
