Well its like this -- My neighbor's have a computer and its kaput. (Too many copies of Bonzai buddy etc.) Its gotten so bad they've decided to start from square one. The problem? They're using Windows XP on a Dell computer with Comcast.

My questions are:

They've got a legit key for XP, and the've installed it once. Is microsoft gonna give any problems about installing/registering?

They're using a Motorola Cable Modem connected to the computer's networking card. Does Comcast need to install special software or are you just networking with the cable modem?

If it complains, it'll give them an 800 number. They can call Microsoft, explain the problem, and they'll activate it.

And no - they don't need to install anything. Same with DSL. Providers say you do, but you really don't. Especially with XP.

This isn't a problem as long as it's the same computer. The cable modem should not require any special software.

That's all it is, really. Just configure it as a network connection, and you should be ready to do rock.
