and even then, I am not quite sure if its really used as thanks :P

Alevice: "Merci" is used as thanks, but it's rarelly used with english adjectives.

do this, goto nocturna.net download some brushes. Open a new canvas add some texture to the background (in your case a yellowish one). Add a new layer, set its blend mode to softlight or if you'd like make it a mask and start using the brushes on it. You bound to get a good effect. Just be creative.
