My reaction to this was certainly not somehting you could repeat in church:

My question is how bad are the streets in Melbourne?

"Pardon me sir, is that a knife in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

Geez! That is a big freakin' weapon! Surely it was destined for some collector's wall, and not intended to be used on anyone (we hope)...

You'd hope wouldn't you!!

The write ups of it are suitably over the top:

http://wickedcoolshit.com/itemdetail.asp?catid=182&id=109

http://globoads.com/index.php/ct_antique/md_details/id_10540

and could easily get an idiot overexicted - that first site offers a number of similar weir weapons:

http://www.888knivesrus.com/product/NVTA56QUADSICKLE

http://www.888knivesrus.com/product/NVTA57PANTCLAW

and while I suspect an ordinary knife or sword woul be more effective...........

You couldn't bust out a decent stab with that!

And I think we can take that as a definitive statement from a Stab Master.

Ah, I see your familiar with the great game of knivesy spoonies...

In all seriousness though, I almost bought one just like that at a local flea market.

It seems though that they have toned down their product mix.... Things like this are about as extreme as you can buy now....

Ugh... Sorry if anyone saw that as an embeded image.

That's why I carry guns. You can bring your shiny little knife. But you better get a running start if you think you're going to stick me with it! :-)

What worries me is that the studded wrist guard is just camp enough so you might not take someone with one of those seriously.

I'd still put good money on being able to best them in one to one combat if I was armed with a broom handle but I'm not sure I'd want to put i to the test.

funny how things like these go around - i sent that exact link (but as a tinyurl, naturally) to my schoolmates...

quote:
"destined for Melbourne's streets"

but read on:

quote:
"Knives and other weapons are restricted imports," Ms Peachey said. "A permit to import a restricted item can be applied for prior to importation."

Customs corporate spokesman Michael Carter said the matter had been investigated and no one would be prosecuted.

"In this instance, a warning has been issued," Mr Carter said.

"From now on they will be monitored for any incoming or outgoing cargo."

to me it sounds like it was destined for a glass cabinet. if it was imported by any sort of a suspicious character, or for any suspicious reason ("uh, i need it for my food preparation, i'm a chef!"), i doubt that they would have simply issued a warning.

still, a chunky knife.

I'd have a go at ya Emps.....

You can even use the whole broom.... but a mop might be handier for afterwards.
