i know i've threatened before, but for an upcoming project i'm participating in i need to buy a digital camera so i'll be picking one up in the next few weeks

i'm looking to keep it under $250 if possible and ideally i'd like to have manual features. my thoughts so far include the canon powershot a75/a80 (if i can find the a80 cheap enough), nikon coolpix 3200, and the olympus c-740 ultrazoom and c-50 zoom. i like the size of the tiny canon elph's but they seem to be a bit lacking in features. anything else i should check out/consider, or any particular recommendations on these models? thanks.

I bought a Canon Powershot A80 recently, and I absolutely love it. I'm having so much fun with it that I'm pretty sure I must be breaking some law or another. It is feature-packed, of course, with priority modes and even full manual (which I must admit I'm still too incompetent to use).

I guess I've had the camera for about a month or so, and I've had no complaints so far. If you'd like to see some of the pictures I've taken it with it, you can check out the following URLs:

The only negative I can think of is price. You're probably going to be hard-pressed to find an A80 with accessories for $250. But if you're willing to lay out it a little more (depending on how good a deal you can get), you will get a very nice camera.

Haven't used the other models, so I can't really offer any input on those. Good luck with your hunt!

thanks suho, been looking at the a75/a80 in the store and i do like them, loaded with features and everything i've seen from them has been quality (nice pics btw ). i've been reading lots of reviews and i really like what i've seen on the olympus c-50 as well, full featured with manual controls but also pretty tiny, a bit more pocketsize than the a75/a80. i haven't found one at a store here to look at tho, i'd really like to play with one a bit before i order.

if anyone has any other thoughts fire away, thanks.
